Re: URGENT help subletting issue

It could be that he's breached the terms of the main lease by subletting. If so you can grass on him. If you have kept the whatsapp messages you can also go to small claims court to get your money back on the basis that he misrepresented facts to you.

Re: PR Chances

I don't know about statistically, speaking, but anecdotally speaking from this forum, those who have applied and rejected and earning over 250K/pa are legion, far outweighing the successful ones. This especially in the Financial Sector. Wish you luck. You might need a healthy dollop of it. But at t...

Re: PR Chances - Feb 2017

Sorry to hear of your rejection. Your application as surmised above seemed no different to those of any single young foreigner working here. Cultural awareness and ability to assimilate into Singapore's multi-cultural and milti-linguistic society are particularly important (i.e. not spending all you...

Very good chance I would say. You tick more boxes that a EU/US economic refugee does.

Re: Hawaiian / Aloha Shirts

Not sure where you are getting your sizing information from but a 48" chest in the US is a size XL~2XL. A Medium is a 38~40" chest. From a medium Yank. Hmm numerous websites seem to say otherwise. Might be that Hawaiian shirts are supposed to be roomier than ordinary ones...not sure. https://upload...

Hawaiian / Aloha Shirts

Maybe I'm just not a very good shopper, but it seems there are very few and far between shops that stock any decent Hawaiian / Aloha shirts for men. Not looking for anything too outrageous. Thinking along the lines of linen, neutral/pastel colours, palm leaves/beach/nature style. I am not that large...

AWWA, Asian Women' Welfare Association, has a lot going on and looks out for volunteers for their many activities. They do a sterling job and are highly organized.

Re: EP renewal rejected * need help and advice urgently

Two things: (1) What would be the point of having a legal process that companies must follow to recruit foreign employees, if all they have to do is go to a labour outsourcer and get one from there? Your employer on record at MOM is the outsourcing company, not their clients. (2) Your salary might f...

Re: Looking to move back to the UK

I visited the UK a few months ago after a hiatus of about 4 years and, on balance, I simply hate the place. There are great things about the UK - sport, countryside, mountains, rivers, parks, animals, gutsy people, education, healthcare, history and all that. But for me, everything is ruined simply ...

Re: Unreasonable Landlord

As you are only renting a room, landlord can invite who he likes when he likes to visit the house, including the room, provided landlord gives you reasonable prior notice. Even if you rented the whole unit, the lease will likely give landlord the right to show people around at all reasonable times. ...

Re: Please advice in terms of cost of living

Being in Singapore there is a desire to travel more just to get away from time to time. You might struggle to afford those trips with your family on that budget. Short trips to Malaysia Batam Bintan etc should be fine though.

Harrys opposite Orchard Towers usually has good live music. Draw back is that it's opposite Orchard Towers. Clean and safe inside though.

Charity Work

Yep that old chestnut. I have heard so many people doing "charity work" in Singapore in order to build up a case to get PR. It is so obvious! Many of these people immediately stop their "charity" as soon as they are approved or declined for PR. If you do charity, do it for charitable reasons, and ke...

Re: PR chances - thoughts?

The high salary will not be a major advantage. If it was, then most PRs would be very high earners, and that would drive inflation. PR tends to be given to people from a cross section of society (only the powers that be decide where those crosses are marked). Doctors, nurses, teachers, lawyers, mana...
