Re: Opening online store while on EP

I just checked the IRAS website: "BACK TO TOP Overseas Income Generally, overseas income received in Singapore on or after 1 Jan 2004 is not taxable. These include overseas income paid into a Singapore bank account. You do not need to declare overseas income that is not taxable" You, like many othe...

Re: Opening online store while on EP

There are two things you must consider. First, as SMS stated, the government prohibits secondary employment on every kind of work pass. Now, we also all know that a work pass is not required for a DP or similar if the work they are doing is for a business that has no presence and no sales in Singap...

Re: Opening online store while on EP

Because your income is taxable in the country the work is performed in. The fact that a server might be in another country is immaterial. Lot's of MNCs here use servers located in their home countries. So the location of the hosting server is immaterial. Where the data is input from is where the wo...

Re: Opening online store while on EP

The quickest and easiest answer is NO. It is illegal for work pass holders (EP, S & WP) are not allowed to engage in any other business as long as they are on a work pass sponsored by another employer in Singapore. This includes part time business as well. So what about working for business outside...

Re: Opening online store while on EP

I have studied every possible thread here regarding this topic since yesterday, and there is a lot of confusion since nobody seems to give an accurate information. The cupcake idea in Singapore seems to be not very feasible while I'm on EP unless I start my own company BUT I have been also thinking ...

Opening online store while on EP

Hi guys, I hope you will help me with my question. I'm on EP here in Singapore and have an amazing corporate job. But during the weekend I like to bake and, thus, want to open my online store selling a few cupcakes and sweets. Am I allowed to do so according to the MOM rules? Do I have to set up a s...

Re: Success stories of your partner employment DH > LOC/EP / Advice needed

As someone who has moved (with my wife) frequently over the last 20 years to new countries with one of us (sometimes me!) being the trailing spouse, we always moved together and trusted in our ability to find good work. Our experience in Singapore: I moved here with a position. My wife came and wai...

Re: Success stories of your partner employment DH > LOC/EP / Advice needed

The partner who earns less should also follow the partner who earns more. True. Unless the partner is about to work for one of the best companies with a nice package as well. Money can't buy happiness. Fortunately or not. Yes, but looks like staying in Japan can't buy you happiness neither. Any cha...

Re: Success stories of your partner employment DH > LOC/EP / Advice needed

It's hard for me to believe that out of thousands and thousands foreign people coming to work in Singapore, all their partners abandon their careers or refuse to come due to this mindset. I've been moderating this board for about 14 years, and while I don't have any hard stats to give you, there ha...

Re: Success stories of your partner employment DH > LOC/EP / Advice needed

I think you should consider splitting up and staying where the work is for each partner. I don't see a lot of light on the horizon for those sorts of jobs. Could you please explain why? Is it because it will be tough to compete with the local labor force? It's hard for me to believe that out of tho...

Thanks for your feedback. I hope to hear a bit more positive stories from other people. I have some time to think so any wise advice will be appreciated.

Re: Success stories of your partner employment DH > LOC/EP / Advice needed

Not sure how individual stories kept on general level may help you, but over past years my wife hired some people on DP and she (PR and a single person company) had no problem obtaining LoC for them (all women and trailing spouses). But again, this might have had a lot to do with the fact they were...
