Re: UPDATE - Freelancing while on dependent visa

I would initially guess that 3 is the best, but if your goal is PR, I'm not sure it will help. I am an LTVP and am not allowed to register as a director through ACRA BizFile because I don't have a SingPass (because my wife is PR and not a citizen, which would give LTVP+ status and allow a SingPass)....

Re: Where to get a diamond ring in Singapore

There are a lot of stores, but I've discovered that local friends who are recently married tend to know a more affordable spot in town than the retail stores that have to pay high rent. I am looking into this now actually, my friends already have their rings and unless they're lying to me, the price...

Re: I Fear For the US of A

Questioning the credibility of some people years ago on the same topic doesn't change the data now, people aren't always right or wrong but it's hard to dispute facts, if we can establish them. In any case, I think our grandchildren may have the option of living on Mars, which would be one solution.

Health Insurance tips/experiences for ex-pats

Hi All, I am looking for tips/experiences from people who have had to use health insurance companies here in Singapore before, particularly ex-pats. Which live up to their end of the bargain the best? I am not just looking for the cheapest provider, but ones that actually pay claims like they promis...

Re: Complicated VIsa extension situation

That's a tricky situation - I have not heard of applications being a potential drawback, but in this case it would seem to be an obvious pattern of coming in and out, which would explain why my friends on short-term visas do it that way. I think your best bet is to have a backup plan you can rely on...

Re: LTVP for de facto partnes - complicated!

I recently went through a similar process but ultimately decided to get married, which I understand is not going to happen yet to you. That said, I got an LTVP after just getting married, so it is possible. They asked if it was my first marriage and whether I was getting paid for it (mine were 1st a...

Re: I Fear For the US of A

US purchased Alaska from Russia in 1867 after Russia offered $7m (google Alaskan Purchase). I wonder what China would offer to sell "its" islands in the South China Sea for. More importantly, how many territorial disputes does China have ongoing now?

http://www.herberts.org/miscdocs/psychtoday.jpg This quote is referring to hallmark behavior of the Republican party (I do not to use the word extreme because many republicans do not believe in global warming or in evolution). The republicans justify their anti-global warming rhetoric by claiming i...

Re: Driving Requirements in Singapore

Has anyone gone through the process of getting an SG driver's license if you already have one from another country (for 15 years)? I would like to obtain an SG license if possible and am curious to hear about personal experiences going through this process. Thanks in advance
