School and tuition fees during circuit breaker (<P1)

Hi Parents - I know many of you have small children below P1 enrolled in a myriad of international large, small or local preschools / kindergartens, in addition to enrichment courses (sports, music, math/English/language tuition). Our youngest isn’t old enough to have distance learning, but the scho...

Do PRs have it better?

Hey all Now that I’ve been a PR a few years, I’ve experienced a different work experience overall. Besides the monetary benefit of CPF, and more perceived level of job security, I feel there are some downsides. Do you find that many employees prefer EP over PR? As an EP you are beholden to your empl...

That's an advanced newborn if she/he is already walking.
Haa! Did it online as well. I wonder if the walk-in application is more efficient.

And ICA will hint or directly suggest LTVP instead, going by recent applications! That's the same suggestion being dished out at MPS too to folks asking for PR assistance Reviving this thread. What is the average time it really takes to get a newborn's PR in 2018/2019? I am still waiting for the PR...

So, how many months your soon took to get his PR? Anyone get their children approved recently? I applied for my son on 2/7... Won't be so fast as you expect. Re: waiting for PR application for newborn - short term visit pass extension declined

Hi wwww, I am Singapore PR and we are also expecting a baby in the next few months. Can you share what is the process to apply PR for newborn? Thank you. You need to apply for your newborn's passport asap. Once you receive it you just complete the usual PR application form (form 4 if I remember rig...

Re: Foreign property mortgages from OCBC or other Singapore bank (USA property specifically)

ANZ/Australia. For USA you'd need to look at Citi / HSBC / BOA and other banks with retail presence in the USA. The given reason being that if they need to hold your title as collateral they need to do it in the USA via a registered bank in USA as the mortgagor and they need to do valuations (and n...

Re: Foreign property mortgages from OCBC or other Singapore bank (USA property specifically)

I used to do this but once my local property was 50% paid off I used a equity loan to pay off the foreign collateral loans completely. Now I don't really care what the exchange rate is doing as my foreign properties are "paid off" (in the sense they don't have a mortgage against them). Thanks PNGMK...

Foreign property mortgages from OCBC or other Singapore bank (USA property specifically)

Hi all I am a USA citizen and Singapore PR. I am looking to purchase an investment property in the USA and would like to finance this with a Singapore based mortgage. I came across OCBC bank providing foreign property mortgage for New York. Has anyone used OCBC for this purpose? Any thoughts or expe...

Re: Experiences with 2 maids - best practices

Thanks for the tips. Won’t worry so much about having 2 filipinas nor age gaps but do need to work out the room logistics. Would expect some sort of storming period at the beginning. I should add, there was one point of contention we didn't find out about until we moved to our second place. We got t...

Re: PR REP Renewal

This is an easy one to solve. Hire an unattractive maid! Many of my colleagues are very trigger happy to hire a maid and send their wives to work. I tell them it is a land mine, be very careful. I let my wife stay at home and do household work, we don't want to get into any kind of mess. Sent from m...

Re: Toilet seats almost always wet!

its better here than most other places in the world. Ever tried to find a clean public toilet seat in San Francisco, even in the posh parts of town? Go on and continue sanitizing the seat yourself. That’s what I do. Evening everyone, I’m a guy so i don’t usually use the actual toilet most times in a...

Transfer maids - more troublesome or saviours ?

We have been interviewing several transfer maids lately and noticed all of them having some kind of complication such as dispute with current employer (abusive employer, disagreement with employer) or seeking a higher salary. We are having a hard time finding one with a bonafide departure of an expa...

Experiences with 2 maids - best practices

Hi All Wanted to hear anyone’s experiences with employing 2 live in maids. We would qualify for having 2 maids based on our work situation, living quarters and children. Seeking advice on the following: - maids of the same race: heard this is bad for Filipinas (a tendency to quarrel. Though I am uns...

Market rates for live in maids

All Trying to get a sense of live in maid rates these days. In searching various maid agencies, I’m noticing expat-oriented maids asking 800-900/month, while those with experience working for Chinese, Indian or local Singaporeans are asking for roughly 650-750. It seems the minimum these days is 600...
