Re: Translation needed

Go to google translate and select Russian as the language to translate. In the bottom center of the translation screen there is a little drop down arrow that will let you select a Russian keyboard you can then type in the characters you see. If you have google translate on your phone you can also se...

Re: Changi airport

There is a baggage storage place in Jewel (level 1) so if you can't check it through you can store it there until you are ready to leave again. Not actually used it myself so don't know what the prices are like.

Re: Relocating to London

I'd work out your take home pay in Singapore (after tax, CPF etc) then use a UK tax calculator (this one seems reasonably up to date https://listentotaxman.com/ ) to work out what you'd need to earn to get the equivalent in your pocket in GPB. The overall taxes you'll pay (including National Insuran...

Not directly related but looks like the courts agree that management committees are being dicks: https://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/judge ... t-corridor

Agree that it's no excuse to take it out on the security guards, they're just doing their job

Re: DP cancelled without my knowledge by SPOUSE

Firstly sorry your spouse is such a passive aggressive arsehole. This is a coward's move. Second where I have seen this happen before the only way for you to get the DP back is negotiate with your spouse and possibly his/her employer HR (I suggest you ring them directly, explain what happened and a...

Re: HSBC or DBS

No ANZ ATMs anymore, DBS bought out ANZ retail banking last year. You can use Bank of China ATMs as well. I've got an HSBC account, banked with them in the UK so was easiest to get an account here, and tend to use Citibank ATMs as they are at a fair few MRT stations so are easier to find. As SE says...

No you'll be fine. As long as she is carrying her IPA letter with her she'll have no problem travelling separately.

Re: Is Airbnb legal in Singapore ?

According to this it still is illegal for both HDB and private property https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/airbnb-illegal-singapore-063503878.html There was talk of changing the laws to allow for Airbnb type rentals but I've not seen anything about that for a while. As PNGMK says it seems that the go...

Re: SGD 110,000 per year for a single person

So if I join after July as I said I should still get 7.8k per month? Sorry for asking confirmation I just want to be sure :) The company also provides relocation of SGD13k. Just clarify for you, as Wong_Jnr mentioned you don't actually pay tax until the end of the tax year (i.e. no PAYE in Singapor...

Re: Singapore is dereft of light/mid strength beer

Similarly San Miguel Light is 5%, not sure if it's an Asia thing but light here seems to mean low calories not low alcohol and possibly refers to a "light" taste. Interestingly there is this article recently about Heineken starting to push their 0% beer in Asia: https://cnalifestyle.channelnewsasia....

Re: Transferwise do cheap transfers but more important can provide US, UK and Aus bank accounts

I use transferwise as well to send money to Thailand, seems to work pretty well so far and has better exchange rates and lower fees than doing it direct from my bank. I've looked at their borderless account but don't have a need for it at the moment, as PNGMK says could come in handy if I ever need ...

Re: Best way for Thai female to pay regular visits to Norwegian bf working in Singapore

I can't say anything more about e-Xtend as I had nothing to do with it. My gf has a Thai friend who is PR in Singapore (married to a SC with a couple of kids) and she did this for her. AFAIK the SC or PR fills in an online form and gets notified the next day whether the extension is granted or not. ...

Re: Best way for Thai female to pay regular visits to Norwegian bf working in Singapore

My wife is Thai and before we were married she did visit me a number of times in Singapore. She is a fair bit older than in your case but otherwise similar and while she never got banned or deported she did get taken and questioned a couple of times. For your specific questions: 1. 4 weeks in 5 week...

Re: Help.. what happens to the sum of $$ in the joint acct which is in five digits when 3rd joint holder party died?

Because the account may be considered part of the deceased's estate therefore he can't just close the account and wander off with the cash. The public trustee deals with estates hence the bank referring to them.
