Re: Is Airbnb legal in Singapore ?

According to this it still is illegal for both HDB and private property https://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/airbnb-illegal-singapore-063503878.html There was talk of changing the laws to allow for Airbnb type rentals but I've not seen anything about that for a while. As PNGMK says it seems that the go...

Re: SGD 110,000 per year for a single person

So if I join after July as I said I should still get 7.8k per month? Sorry for asking confirmation I just want to be sure :) The company also provides relocation of SGD13k. Just clarify for you, as Wong_Jnr mentioned you don't actually pay tax until the end of the tax year (i.e. no PAYE in Singapor...

Re: Singapore is dereft of light/mid strength beer

Similarly San Miguel Light is 5%, not sure if it's an Asia thing but light here seems to mean low calories not low alcohol and possibly refers to a "light" taste. Interestingly there is this article recently about Heineken starting to push their 0% beer in Asia: https://cnalifestyle.channe...

Re: Transferwise do cheap transfers but more important can provide US, UK and Aus bank accounts

I use transferwise as well to send money to Thailand, seems to work pretty well so far and has better exchange rates and lower fees than doing it direct from my bank. I've looked at their borderless account but don't have a need for it at the moment, as PNGMK says could come in handy if I ever need ...

Re: Best way for Thai female to pay regular visits to Norwegian bf working in Singapore

I can't say anything more about e-Xtend as I had nothing to do with it. My gf has a Thai friend who is PR in Singapore (married to a SC with a couple of kids) and she did this for her. AFAIK the SC or PR fills in an online form and gets notified the next day whether the extension is granted or not. ...

Re: Best way for Thai female to pay regular visits to Norwegian bf working in Singapore

My wife is Thai and before we were married she did visit me a number of times in Singapore. She is a fair bit older than in your case but otherwise similar and while she never got banned or deported she did get taken and questioned a couple of times. For your specific questions: 1. 4 weeks in 5 week...

Re: Help.. what happens to the sum of $$ in the joint acct which is in five digits when 3rd joint holder party died?

Because the account may be considered part of the deceased's estate therefore he can't just close the account and wander off with the cash. The public trustee deals with estates hence the bank referring to them.

Re: House renting with a power of attorney

Googling here https://singaporelegaladvice.com/law-articles/hdb-power-of-attorney-where-to-get-one/ it seems that HDB POAs are filed with the courts in Singapore. Not really sure that this makes it a court document or why that would prevent you from having a photo for your records.

It was a while ago but from memory I was told by my company HR to use the hotel address.

Re: Residential Address requirement for new EP holder

Yes it can. I was in a hotel for the first month when I was here and used that address for the pass issuance and also to set up a local bank account. Once you've found a permanent address you can change your address for the EP online.

Re: Chewing gum for medicinal purposes - where to get?

Last time I went to JB with a mate he bought a box of chewing gum and tried to carry it through customs in a 7/11 plastic bag. Customs said sorry you can't take la, and confiscated it. I'm sure if he'd put it in his backpack he would not have had a problem.

Re: To marry or not

Have a look here: https://va.ecitizen.gov.sg/cfp/customerpages/msf/rom/explorefaq.aspx and here https://www.rom.gov.sg/ for details and FAQs on getting married in Singapore. From what I've seen there is no problem with foreigners getting married in Singapore however at least one of you has to have b...

Re: Jurong East Residents?

For condos use the following link https://www.ura.gov.sg/realEstateIIWeb/resiRental/search.action to search for recent rental prices. The results include the condo development name, number of bedrooms and size of property so you can easily compare asking price with similar recent rentals. Mike

Re: Would you?

I'd also think as you'd likely be tax resident in Singapore you'd have to pay Singapore taxes on your income here so the double taxation arrangements should kick in so you'd only have to pay NZ taxes on the rental income on your NZ property. As PNGMK says if that's the case then the salary you're ta...
