Returning home - Want to keep my SG bank account. Any issues?

From what I gather, UOB will be perfectly happy for me to park some money in my account and just let it sit there (earning no interest :???: ). Can anyone confirm same for me? Above and beyond changing my account address to my local out-of-country address, do banks generally need to know or have me ...

Best method to find "flat minder" while on vacation?

Over the last few months, my wife and I have collected quite a few indoor and outdoor house plants -- so many that automatic watering devices aren't really viable (too much time / effort to build them, too much money to buy them...and no place to store them when not in use) So...we're looking for so...

Best place to buy men's (workout) swimwear?

Hey All - Looking to purchase a suit and goggles (retail vs. online) today. It looks like once upon a time there were several "Arena" stores in major malls, but they have now closed. Most of the other brick-and-mortar sports retailers I'm finding might have googles, but not trunks..a couple seem to ...

Question about Fiber installation

Hey Folks - I have MyRepublic coming out in a little bit more than a week, and I have a question about how Fiber installs generally go. I'm in a new (rented) apartment with a Fiber Termination Point inside a small utility closet in my place. Where will the installer tech locate the ONT? Do they gene...

Please confirm: I can use EZLink card before registering it

Just picked up an EZLink card and the "todo" list on its cover says to register the card. To do this I need a FIN number, which I won't get for another week or so. I can still use the card on the MRT in the meantime, right? I'm simply not protected if I manage to lose the thing before it is register...

Re: DBS vs. CitiBank: Opening accounts vs. ease of use

Thanks all, this is good stuff. plus I doubt any of those cards will match up with those available here in terms of mileage accrual, especially if you pick your cards wisely What is considered average vs. good on mileage accrual on local cards? I get 3x per 1$ on travel and 2x on dining/entertainmen...

Re: DBS vs. CitiBank: Opening accounts vs. ease of use

Thanks! I was under the (mistaken, it seems) impression that NETs was a big deal in terms of making bill payments easier, etc. In my perfect world I'd want to be able to pay as many of my local bills (power, water, internet, etc.) online (1st choice) or at an ATM (2nd choice). I don't want to stand ...

DBS vs. CitiBank: Opening accounts vs. ease of use

Hi All - Will be relocating to SIngapore next month and trying to get a handle on banking. From the research I've done, it appears quite easy to open a "Global" account with Citibank. Does a Citi account afford me as much "local flexibility" as an account with DBS, however? Do I get NETS with a Citi...

Interesting, looks like NetFlix may start playing "hardball" on geo spoofing:

Re: Shopping: Quality "Business" shoes for men?

These are beautiful shoes - I actually was not familiar with the Church's brand. Now owned by Prada, I see -- and there is a store in Singapore. Looks like I can bring the credit card.

I'm rather average in terms of shoe size (43/44) - Assuming that won't be too much of a challenge?

Shopping: Quality "Business" shoes for men?

Soon-to-be (US) expat here deciding what footwear I should have shipped to Singapore vs. put in storage here at home. In a perfect world, I'd prefer to bring one pair of really nice business-appropriate shoes, a pair of trainers, and a pair of casual "knock-arounds"...then buy anything else I need l...

Re: International Streaming - Use provider's VPN solution or

Heh, thanks. I thought Singapore was all about law and order -- interesting that these providers are willing to participate in what must pretty much be a running battle to keep these services viable. I'm not complaining though. You gents have any idea what the lag time generally is for Fiber install...

Re: International Streaming - Use provider's VPN solution or

Good stuff.

Are said content providers doing anything to try and prevent these services from doing their thing?(blacklisting IP address ranges, etc). I didn't know I could get away with a service that would (essentially) just spoof my IP without using VPN.

Intl Streaming - Use provider's VPN solution or DIY?

Moving to Singapore in February, so worrying about the important things in life - Internet and access to my US-based streams like Hulu, Netflix, etc. From reading through threads, it sounds like any of the major providers will certainly be good enough for me. Does anyone have any opinions on VPN sol...
