Re: Moving to SG with a pet dog (Beagle)

Of course, not all Muslims are like that, and I apologize if it seemed prejudiced. I intended it as the opposite: Be mindful and respectful of others around you. We have found a couple of pet taxis - they offer a more comfortable ride (esp for a bigger dog), though are quite a bit more expensive. It...

Re: Moving to SG with a pet dog (Beagle)

We moved here with a labrador, which - judging by the reaction of people in the elevator/on the street, is something nearer to a feral lion than a happy-go-lucky dog breed. We didn't have any trouble finding a place that would allow dogs - just be upfront about it. But, having moved from a house wit...

Re: Moving companies, Singapore to Australia

Hello -
This guide to moving costs to Australia is great, albeit a little dated. It's looking like the wife and I will be relocating to Sydney before the end of the year. Does anyone have any updated idea of the costs for movers door-to-door?

Thanks much,
D

Re: Drinks Club - Raffles/CBD Area?

I should be in town most of the next couple of months. Count me in as well.

Re: Disposal Income - Enough?

I think your estimates may be a little high, but not terribly so. My utility bill is $250-275 for 1600sf, incl fairly liberal A/C. Internet - $50-60 (MyRepublic fiber) Phone - I guess it depends on the plan. I just use a prepaid card 1GB/30days = $20/mo. I use Skype to make calls. You're on wifi so ...

Re: WNDC 2015??

Always up for a drink if I'm in town... which these days isn't terribly frequently. If you plan to go somewhere, post it - I'm sure you'll find takers now and again.

Re: Anyone down for cocktails next weekend?

43, US, been here since August and ready to meet some new people. I work in CBD so Quays (incl HK street) is around the corner. Count me in... 35yr old, German. This week? "Around the quays" is good, best cocktails are anyway served in Hongkong street... You mean the hidden bar at 25 Hong Kong Stree...

Ahh! Then slingbox is a pretty effective way to do this. You can get an older model on eBay pretty cheap.

Re: Where Can I Find a Gizmo That Does This?

If it is via the Over the Air Singapore channels, check out http://www.Record.tv" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I'm not sure they even sell them here, but I have a Slingbox set up in the US, and can stream live TV anywhere I have an internet connection - no geographic limitations ap...

Just wanted to close the loop here. Thanks everyone for your comments. Some very constructive, some otherwise. After taking a look at several places, we chose between Marina Bay Suites, which was mentioned above, and St. Martin Residence on St. Martin's drive. Both had their +/-, but ultimately we w...

The wife did see a couple of these early (while I was at work), but she wasn't sold on them, and our agent was convinced we could find a new place. Armed with much better information now, we may need to revisit - seeing a couple that look pretty nice (remodeled, even) with huge rooms. I guess we'll ...

Thanks, all, for the suggestions. Will definitely look into those properties/areas suggested. To respond to some of the comments/questions: We HAVE seen some that meet the criteria, and in our budget, so we know they're out there. Just need to find something that 'speaks' to the Mrs....whatever that...

Relocating in August

Hi All - Mrs. ATLDML and I are going to be moving to Singapore in August. We're extremely excited to begin this new adventure! We did a look-see visit a few weeks ago, and saw about 30 apartments. Unfortunately none that Mrs. ATLDML fell in love with, so the search continues. We are required to go t...
