Re: Nexus International School

I can't speak knowledgeably about the Singapore branch. I always found them all show and no substance. Of course they have some good teachers, but the people at the very top are all about the money. If the good people they have don't directly correlate with an increase in income, they will be quickl...

Re: Nexus International School

Curious to know why you would put GEMS in with not-for-profit schools. Having worked for GEMS myself (not in Singapore), I found them the most money-focused company I've ever worked for.

Volunteering on DP

Morning all,

My husband and I have been in Singapore a month - I'm working, he's on a DP hoping to start a Masters soon. He'd like to do some voluntary lab work (he's a microbiologist) while waiting to start his course - anyone know if it's allowed or not?

Thanks.

Ahhh thanks people. Springdale looks like a good option, to be honest. The Lynx - we've been shown a few properties around where you are suggesting, and none of them were any good, which is a shame as it would be ace to live so close to work. It would help if estate agents posted pics of the rooms t...

Thanks - I'm British, hubby Kenyan, baby both. No car. Budget $3.5k. I'm at Nexus, him (hopefully) at NUS. Condo. No pets. Could do with walkable distance to day care for baby (one that takes 18 month+). Completely agree that a lot of people base their views on one specific thing...was hoping to gue...

Bukit Timah - condos to avoid?

Hi, We move to Singapore in a week and I haven't yet made a decision about where to live. I'll be working around Holland Rd, and hubby will hopefully be at NUS. Looking at prices and bus routes, we're thinking Bukit Timah...more likely the upper part. Are there any condos people would suggest are be...

Thanks, Beppi. I realise it's big - I was hoping to locate the child day care centers and use that information to help narrow my condo search. It would be really frustrating for me to find an apartment and then realise there are no child care facilities within walking distance.

Bukit Timah child care - 18 months and up

Hi, We're moving to Singapore in August and I'm currently looking at housing in Bukit Timah. I want my daughter to go to a day-care type centre when she is 18 months old, and ideally somewhere within walking distance. I'm struggling to do internet research into places that provide this, and where th...

I know GEMS schools in other parts of the world. I'd imagine the school will be very well resourced. From experience, I find GEMS know the Middle Eastern market well, but can fall down when they try to apply things that work their in other countries. They don't properly research the country properly...

Do you know, JR8, I always thought that myself...until it actually came down to it, and now that it seems I might have no option I suddenly want the dress and the flowers! Never knew I was a romantic traditionalist at heart!

I'm in the same boat too - except we're not in Singapore yet. We got a notarized declaration in the country we are currently living in, however our application was still rejected because it wasn't from the BHC. I'm hoping that my partner is accepted on to the uni course he has applied to or else we ...

Hi- yes I found out two days ago that it was rejected. Gutted. Sorry to hear about your situation, if anything it must be worse for you having been allowed to set up your life and then having it denied. We're currently debating marriage, the lady processing our visa applications was confident it wou...
