Re: HR timeline

It's odd to me that the 'sordid topic' of money wasn't addressed in the first interview. While it is not unusual for companies here to require the candidate to state their desired salary before the company reveals their budget (classic bargaining strategy), it seems very strange that this question w...

Re: Fitness tips for gym newbies

Hmm... to be honest, asking for exercise tips on a forum is probably not the best approach. Since you are completely new to the gym, I think it is best to sign up for a personal training package with a definitive 'exit point'. This means that you work with the trainer to identify the best combinatio...

IMHO, your family is downright rejected for failure in planting roots - why international school for your son?
How do you get into a local school without SPR/SC?

Re: Criteria for approval SPR/SC

To add my integration story, it took me 11 years to apply for my PR in 2004. (And that was only because I was nagged into doing so by my then GF and now wife (SG citizen). I'd had the application form buried in my desk drawer for about 4 years at the time.) I received my approval within a month of a...

Re: Am I insane to spend this much on rent with my salary

Maybe I am unique — I can understand how spending on a credit card would seem less painful to others. But for me, there is absolutely no difference. Even before I submit a form of payment I feel the pain… no matter cash or credit. Of course, I’ve never paid less than the full balance in my entire 3...

Re: 6th person died from Covid19 in one month

I have gotten to the stage where I think people who refuse to be vaccinated (note - NOT people who are unable to be vaccinated), should be refused hospitalisation if they contract COVID-19. Let them rely on their God-given rights and natural immunity to keep them alive.

Re: BIG 4 Expats (Any recommendations?)

I am not an auditor but I have worked in one of the big 4 here in a diferent capacity. The EP thing is not a big issue, you either get it or you don't. Just don't resign from your current role until you see at least an Approval In Principle. Work and culture-wise, I doubt that you will find life in ...

Re: EP chance - Large Salary Increment (Marketing)

Do you have any reading recommendations off the top of your head? And for sure, agencies have have poor formal training in general, just learning as we go! Can't say I can think of any immediately but I think just about any people management book would suffice at this stage, especially if you'll be...

Re: EP chance - Large Salary Increment (Marketing)

First of all, congrats on the promotion and the new job. As SMS said, you were probably underpaid in your first role. (Not unusual at all for the ad industry.) In fact, if you had continued to stay on at your agency you'd probably find that, even when you are promoted, your salary increment for each...

Re: Singaporeans coming home?

In 1997 an Irish friend of mine transferred from Jakarta to Singapore with his (young) Indonesian wife. They had barely been married a year. Within 8 months she was home sick for Jakarta and her parents, crying herself to sleep every night and he reluctantly packed up and moved back. Less than 3 wee...

Re: trying to relocate from UK

Best case, COVID gradually, but surely, begins to fizzle out globally end of 2022 after mass-vaccination, while gahmen very slowly starts opening up 21Q3. This is what I believe the SG government is working towards. They know Singapore can't continue to be a closed shop and have any chance of survi...
