Re: Property Rental for Self Employed

Strong Eagle covered it. Unless you are a Singapore citizen or permanent resident, you will need an EntrPass/employment pass/work permit to lease an apartment. Simple as that I'm afraid.

The Demise of the Angry Board

Alas, it appears that what was arguably the original message board for expats in Singapore has departed with a whimper rather than a bang.

Re: What to bring over...?

This! ^^^^ I landed with a briefcase, small suitcase and a Kirby-Morgan 9 Bandmask in a bag. Still here, but with a lot of baggage after 36 years here. ;-) I'm sure your beloved wife (and kids) with just love being referred to as "a lot of baggage"! To the person asking these questions, T...

Re: Woodworking - Acoustic Guitar Building

A couple of options for you to consider: Taking into Strong Eagle's advice about starting with a simpler challenge, you can check out Tombalek Woodworking Centre in Woodlands. They run classes and workshops where you can build your own solid body electric guitar. (MUCH easier than building an acoust...

Wait until you've been working here at least 3 years before you apply.

Re: Need urgent recommendation for Muscle wasting treatment

It sounds like your mum needs expert physiotherapy rather than anabolics. I'd suggest you google for "sports medicine doctor". I can recommend Dr Chook Sports & Lifestyle Medical Centre in Orchard Building from personal experience.

Re: Risky Employment Contract Terms

To the OP, as SMS said, if there is anything about the contract clause that you and your wife are unhappy with, she shouldn't accept the role. When I stepped off the plane here about 25 years ago I was also under the burden of an employment contract with a local firm that had grossly unfair terms re...

If you think SG is bad for smart phone addiction, you should take a trip to HK. I'm pretty sure they have their phones surgically attached to their faces.

Re: Unintentional Breach of Contract

Does your rental contract have an itemised list of what the rental covers? eg $XXXX for apartment, $XXX for furnishings, $XXX for Utilities etc? There may be a way to determine a fair reduction of your monthly rent from that. The only other thing I can suggest is to do as PNGMK says, and get an esti...

Re: PR Renewal Online

If you are not actually residing in Singapore, then it is quite likely your REP (which is what you are actually renewing) will be rejected. For both you and your kids. It's called Permanent RESIDENT for a reason.

Re: Special Gathering of Eagles

Some of those beers are pretty strong so careful what you order. I'm good with TAP at Capitol too. And bgd is right: Coronado Guava Islander is delicious and usually on tap (TAP regularly alternates its beers on tap) and is 7% alcohol. It'll put you on your backside pretty fast if you're not careful!
