Re: Permanent Residency - Overseas scenario
It does look odd that husband and wife are on different lands at the point of application. Can we explain to immigration that when the husband has more employment opportunities as a PR, the wife will join him?

Permanent Residency - Overseas scenario
Hi guys, as a Singapore citizen myself already, I'm looking into applying for PR for the hubs, who's Australian. It's looking a little tricky at the moment because of our situation, so if someone can shed some light here, that'd be great. I moved to Australia after getting married 3 years ago and ha...

Re: I Hate Paying Agent FEE !!!!
Where would be a few good places to start looking if we want to deal with landlords directly or not have to pay agent fees? Each time I do a search in Google, I'm led to property listing websites which are dominated by agents.

Re: Property Agents - service down the drain
I'm certainly not expecting red carpet service or the agents to engage in long chatters - I'm very aware this is such a competitive industry that if I'm not the customer profile they're looking for, they move on straightaway to the next fish in the ocean. But from a business point of view I'm surpri...

Re: Property Agents - service down the drain
Craigslist and AirBnB drew blanks - expected when the budget is so low. They seem to be more catered to short stays (a few days), rather than 6 months. But the good news is my husband's found a nice looking room a stone's throw from his workplace, albeit without air conditioning. Now he just needs t...

Re: Property Agents - service down the drain
Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I switched my strategy on your advice, and yes! It was so much easier and I did come across some helpful and friendlier agents. It takes a little getting used to the different communication preferences - in Australia, calling is generally favoured over textin...

Re: Property Agents - service down the drain
Yeah I never bothered reading property agent threads on this forum because I didn't feel there was a need to. I did however, read the stickies on lease agreements and what to look out for when viewing a room - those were supremely helpful. If I was looking for a $4,000/mth apartment, then I've got a...

Re: Getting to eat 'proper food' again...
I don't know if 2 years of home-cooking and eating with my husband's family (foodie family!) has made me snooty...but seeing my Singapore friends posting up Facebook pictures of Western dinners with taglines like "Epic dinner!" or "Best steak ever!" make me laugh. Because all I see are amateur cuts ...

Property Agents - service down the drain
For a city with a myriad of property agents, I would expect decent service from at least half of them because the market is so competitive. I called a good 10 agents yesterday looking for a room for my husband, and one that took the cake was a chap - let's call him Ryan. Here's how my conversation w...

Re: Amazon Server EC2
Reading all these replies has led me to conclude that handling Amazon servers is not a job for a non-tech staff member, correct me if I'm wrong. I would either have to look for an IT guy who's versed in this, or outsource the management to a managed services provider. Or is it something I can learn ...

Amazon Server EC2
Need a techie's advice and suggestions here. My company is looking to move our current server, which is hosted by a local provider, to an Amazon server. This comes after a few episodes of down times and the hosting company was unable to identify the problem. We've heard Amazon servers are extremely ...

Re: The first few days
We're sticking with public transport, thank you very much! Ha..! It is an absolute pleasure to go by public transport once you've experienced Australian's transport system. Routes, times and fees are a disgrace. A quick update here. Research seems to be progressing well. I am finding . to be extreme...

Re: The first few days
@brian_singapore: The workplace is in Bishan, so our top choice is Bishan, 2nd choice would be Ang Mo Kio, and last resort would be anywhere that doesn't require long transport time to get to work. @SMS: Thanks for the great advice and tips. And no, limited savings do not mean we're going there with...

The first few days
Some advice here would be great. With my husband leaving for Singapore in a month's time, we are actually quite lost as to where he can spend the first few days or even the first couple of weeks while hunting for a proper place. I'll join him in 5-6 months'. The company does not offer accomodation n...
