Re: Moving to SG - Having second thoughts...

Before you commit anything, you want to fully understand what your entitlements are when you decide to leave Singapore and go back to Europe. No matter how excited you might be to live in SE Asia, that wears off in time as you develop a rhythm. You may stay forever and you may decide to bail in a ye...

Re: Using a US TV in Singapore

There is a distinct possibility that your TV will not work with HDMI in Singapore. Although the resolution specs are the same for HDMI worldwide, the framerates are not the same... still 50 fps for everything but the USA and 60 fps for the USA... in order to maintain compatibility with PAL and NTSC...

I agree with x9200 fully on this one. Yes, air dried smell better if you are in the countryside without petrochemical hydrocarbon pollution and haze, but Jeans and polo shirts come out of the drier without creases OR my biggest bane in Singapore, STIFFNESS. Even using things like Soflan doesn't sol...

They're a bit higher, at least 3 stories at the heritage HDB zone . Is that the area where they bulldozed the original Victorian/colonial-era buildings to redevelop it? :???: I looked up a little bit of info, and didn't see any reference to that. Here's the gumment version anyhow: http://www.nhb.go...

I think that's what was being referred to by PNGMK. They're a bit higher, at least 3 stories at the heritage HDB zone.

Who/rents out those Art Deco buildings along TB road? HDB? Interesting choice of terms there, as I always get flashbacks of Miami when I'm there. Love having breakfast at the upstairs hawker centre! It's a heritage neighborhood, and one of the oldest HDB's still standing. My guess is that the indiv...

I use front loading washers & driers. Or is it dryers? :???: It depends. Could be dreyers and then it would be ice cream!! :P Thanks all for the suggestions. We'll track it down some more and should be able to get it going. To JR8: we looked at the manufacturer's info to see about this, but haven't...

Re: Dryer vent in the red dot?

Our condo unit has a dryer in it, but it does not have the vent hose going outside, so of course the laundry area gets pretty toasty. Does anyone know where there might be a shop to buy the venting kit? I found one real cheap in the states but its diameter is a couple cm shy of what we need. We've ...

Yes, your gross salary, housing allowance, school allowance, health insurance allowance, and relocation bonus will all be taxed as income by both Singapore and the US. There is no double taxation treaty. That said, you can get tax credits for the US on what you pay in Singapore (not much, at your t...

I honestly never got the "Bohemian" reputation of Tiong Bahru….I guess it just seems like it tries too hard to be cool…. Well, that's most of Singapore. Most hipster neighborhoods (anywhere really) feel like that to me though. I just suggested it as it is one of the locations with a critical mass o...
