Re: Do you miss flying?
I don't really like driving on Malaysia's secondary roads, from a safety perspective at least, day or night. Too many lunatics trying their luck overtaking ahead of a curve or a slope and, at times, way too many lorries and buses. We used to have a rule of thumb that applied as good as 100% for year...

Re: Bank accounts must be closed on departure from Singapore? New 2021 rule?
Sounds bogus to me. I'm able to retain bank accounts in countries that are way less bank hub-y than Singapore, i.e. whilst not actually living in those countries. It makes no sense for Singapore to want this, least of all now.
Verdict: Bogus.
Verdict: Bogus.

Re: Do you miss flying?
Clearly. According to the news just now, we're having the wettest January in 30 years. And we're only 10 days in. WLE.
But the forecast is for dryer weather from Wednesday onward, so yay!

Well, because in order to provide a meaningful reply, we need to know if you're home and hosed in that department. If so, well done. In the latter case, your odds of moving here are longish.

Re: Do you miss flying?
I was keen to her your take on exactly that aspect, i.e. crime/personal safety. We encountered quite an unsavory character in pretty much the very spot you're describing above. In fact, if I read the scenario correctly that day, we're lucky to come away in one piece, thanks to a keen eye on my part ...

Re: The Bitcoin topic that Wd40 wanted :)
"Nuts" is a euphemism for "I was wrong on ETH and BTC and I'm now thinking there may be some real-world utility to both of them after all"? :) There's also a certain feathered friend, conspicuously present at the start of this thread but now rather conspicuously absent, whose opinion, amended or oth...

Re: Do you miss flying?
Once you clear the urban sprawl, Johor to Mersing has a bit heavy traffic with hills, twists, turns & bumps... but once you pass Mersing, it’s smooth, flat, straight and light traffic... just watch out for the occasional goat crossing! There is one small undeveloped stretch along the road with good...

I reckon renting, especially given the pretty hefty property overhang still looming.
Add to that a prolonged exodus of EP peeps, courtesy of Covid.
Oversupply of Units + Departure of Expats = Plunging Rents.

Re: Aircon Usage - Utility Bills - Best Practices
I reckon the dog days here are March/April/May. Hardly any wind, fewer squalls than normal, low precipitation all around. Greenery and grassy patches turn brown. Hot and dry. Once prevailing winds swing from NE to SW, the humidity creeps up, resulting in hot and sticky conditions. This is when our a...

WD, I don't know when you were in Europe last, but certainly the western part of Europe has, rather clearly, been quite pro immigration for a good number of years.

Re: Health Check plan
Let me just warn you ahead of time, when you go through health screening here, it’s a bit like taking your car for a tuneup... the mechanic has an incentive to find things wrong or at least raise suspicions about possible things that could be wrong in order to maximize revenue. Don’t be surprised i...
