Re: The school dilema - moving to SG

I've heard so about so many problems about getting in to local schools, combined with our potential future plans, that we haven't really considered local schools. As for your #4 point, it seems you may be unaware the international schools all have application/facility/bs fees that amount to thousand...

Stamford vs Chatsworth

So the prices at Stamford are just ridiculous and getting worse.
I think the money is better spend on other things for our family.

We're looking at Chatsworth(east campus) next week for our son going into 2nd grade.

Anyone have any experience or opinion? I wonder what we're loosing out on for $10k.

We're a 2 person, 2 kid household.
We're here on a little more then that and having a great time.
Next year when the little one goes to big school though... we'll need to change something.

Re: Cost of Living in Singapore with Child

My feedback: 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 helper Your rent budget will get you a decent place. Private school: on target. Transport: My wife and I take MRT everyday to work, and most places. We rarely take taxies. My daughter's preschool is walking distance from condo. My son's stupid bus is apx 2k a year. O...

Re: Moving to Singapore - Bringing Video Games / BlyRays

I have seen GTA V openly advertised and sold at stores here.
So on the video game front, you should be fine.

I have bought Game of Thrones series from Amazon with no problems. Other then Singpost saying they tried to delivery it when they did not. :)

To renegotiate rent or move?

When we moved to Singapore in in 2013, we only had a few days to househunt. We found a good place, but kind of got put over the barrel on the price because we were kind of desperate. Now the rental market is down, we're settled in and are on better footing to negotiate. We're coming up to the end of...

Re: What pre-paid to pick?

I use Starhub prepaid and have no problems. Been using it for a year and 1/2 now. It's fairly straight forward i think. I believe you have to register the simcard using your passport, but that's a legal thing, not starhub. I rarely use the phone aspect of my phone/service.. mostly i use it for data ...

Re: Diving in Indonesia

I did a live aboard around Komodo/Flores in July. Freaking fantastic! I think for the money, it's a good option. Room and board and diving all taken care of in one package. To see the manta rays where I went, I wouldn't recommend unless someone was really comfortable and at least Advanced certified....

Re: DBS vs. CitiBank: Opening accounts vs. ease of use

michellell nailed it. the global transfer stuff is a huge pain, and not really whats advertiesed. there is a 10k limit per every 24 hours. They don't tell you that either. i had over $50k locked up in the US when i moved here and had to scream on the phone for 2 hours before i finally got them to ag...

Re: PHL Embassy BS?

This is the Philippine embassy... nothing at all to do with UK.

And this is supposed to be the procedure. You HAVE to have the airline tickets before you apply for the papers.

I got a feeling i'm going to be screaming at someone in about 30 minutes.

PHL Embassy BS?

So my helper is supposed to be going home for Christmas on Monday. Philippino helpers apparently need some special paperwork from the embassy to go home and come back. And we HAVE to apply through a maid agency we're told. So we did about 50ish days ago with G&A who are supposedly reputible. She STI...

Re: stamford, dulwich, nexus - any input??

My son goes to Stamford and started there last year in KG2. Overall the school has a lot of rich brats. So lots of the families are just... on a different level then we are. Last year was great, my son's teacher was fantastic and was able to direct him well. (My kid is pretty high energy). This year...

We gave up.
Rent movies on Itunes(through an american account) onto computer and plug HDMI into tv.
For Game of Thrones we bought off Amazon.
Even though we pay extra for HBO, they censor the crap out of it. So screw that.
