Re: Buying a HDB or Condominium?

The primary reason I have avoided buying a HDB is that they cannot be used as collateral. You cannot borrow against your equity in a HDB but you can borrow against equity in a freehold, 999 and 99 year lease private property. I borrowed 150k about 3 years ago to renew COE, pass off an Australian mor...

You messed up putting your current partner down as the father even though he isn't. You should have fought that issue at the time.

To back that mistake out is hard.

Re: DBS Non Existant Fraud Controls

People have been repeatedly warned about #1 but the scammers know how to manipulate people psychologically. This is the reason i told my elderly parents to avoid digital banking for now especially as i am not near them. You've made a good point. What I've done before (but not currently) is register...

Re: DBS Non Existant Fraud Controls

Hope isn't a strategy.
I don't see any point in advising you any further.

Re: Where will you retire?

Great to hear from Rob and see this thread revived. As I am no longer in full time corporate work this comes up a bit in conversation. Where do we go? My wife wants to rotate our daughter back into the US system fairly soon and that plays into it a bit. I would like to try living in a few places. M...

I wouldn't want to live there or even spend a whole vacation there, but, as noted, it was the novelty considering where you were.
I've been up there (Kuantan) on an offshore project for OI about the same time and my recollections are similar.

Re: Vaccinated Travel Lane flights from London; feedback please

Too early. Only started yesterday. I came in as Cat 1 from Taiwan which is similar and it was tedious but ok. SHN until you clear the swab... keep in mind if you're positive result it will be a definite disruption.

1. Did you click the link provided in first message " into the link provided "? This violates DBS TOC which is to not click any links any such messages which is what they are standing on. Unfortunately sending fake links is a common scam to harvest user names and passwords etc. 2. I would engage a s...

Re: New in Town

I see that there is a 20's, 30's and a 40's club. No 50's club? I just got settled here and looking at being a bit more social. I live out on the west side and looking to meet some expats who may live on this side of the island. I am from California/Oregon. It's not easy with the current restrictio...

SCDF ambulances are under strain

My son is an EMT now. Every shift is full on. 7 calls over 12 hours and often over time. In the old days it was 4 calls. Try not to call 995 unless you really need it. Also the call outs are getting longer due to stretched services. You may end up waiting for an ambulance to cross half the island to...

Re: Tenancy agreements/leases and your rights as a tenant

2nd Car lots are very contentious issues at the MC meetings I've been too. We generally never allow it as if we do we will run out of car parks. There is no reasonable way to hand out any excess lots. Furthermore the title for apartments does not usually include a car park lot. Where we are there ar...
