Re: Thinking of Divorce
There are a lot of good books out there that can really help… many available to borrow for free from NLB, including ebooks. I can’t recall which book I read it in, but there is something called the four horsemen, which is quite useful when facing a potential marital apocalypse. The Four Horsemen: C...

Re: ChatGPT calculates your PR Probability!
Sadly in the Singapore context it is virtually worthless if it doesn't take into consideration race/ethnicity and age & fertility because we all know Singapore also uses immigration to bolster it's (in it's eyes) ideal demographic percentages and future NS needs. Good for discussion but please don'...

Re: Buying property in Singapore as dual-nationality
I should add that there are additional burdens on being a US Citizen that may make this unpalatable. The foremost being taxation on capital gains (AFAIK).

Re: Buying property in Singapore as dual-nationality
Actually I don't think it's a problem and you're in a very interesting situation where you can buy a property cheaper than a PR!. The FTA is there. There is no rule stopping a PR having dual citizenship. I wouldn't change the passport your PR is linked to but use your US citizenship to request an AB...

Re: the “not whiskey” about malaysia
Very interesting report Taxico. Your life has certainly changed. I spend a fair bit of time in Malaysia these days but have never "resided" there. KL looks easy enough but Johor not so much to me. FYI there is a Mustafa opening in JB near city square. Get some medical care for your wife (I assume yo...

Beppi - I think you know the issue .... you have blotted your copy book so to speak.
I imagine in due course you will hear from CPF if affected by this (make your your address is up to date)/.

Re: Work Permit Marry Singapore Citizen
Hi all, I'm currently work permit holder in Singapore, Malaysian. I'm pregnant with a Singapore Citizen's child. We applied approval from MOM for marriage but haven't get a reply yet. It has been two weeks and my due date is in June 2023. I understand that MOM will email back to us within 4 weeks b...

Re: SRS investment options
I did my taxes for YA2022 yesterday SRS and CPF VC helped reduce my taxes to $424. (Half my YA2022 income was sourced and derived by activity outside Singapore tho) As a self employed contractor I can claim 100% of my CPF VC. That and SRS and QC and income deductibles pushed my total tax deductible...

I should add that these days for SRS investments I just buy a 1 year IPL. Great Eastern have some that return 4% capital guaranteed. It provides a return and insurance during the term.

Re: CPF accounts of 300,000 foreigners will automatically close from April 2024
If it gets withdrawn, it means less SSGS money for MAS/GIC to invest - which means lower total dollar returns, and potentially higher taxes to make up for it - - not significant, but I see no benefit for the government or taxpayers. Maybe whatever is left earning zero will make up for it. Yes I agr...

Re: CPF accounts of 300,000 foreigners will automatically close from April 2024
There is no point in giving up PR if you want your CPF to earn interest. However I guess you can lose PR if outside Singapore for sometime so this is a problem. I also think this is from is the old era when EP holders had to pay CPF (approx 1990 it changed). I suspect many of these people have eithe...

Re: Am I able to afford a small condo?
You need 25% deposit upto which can be 10% from your CPF OA. Legal fees ~3k ABSD and BSD and legals cannot be financed and needs to be paid in cash on settlement. Renovation, moving costs, MCST fees etc all may need to be paid. For a 1.5 MM Condo: Deposit (25%) $375k. ABSD (5%) $75k BSD $30,400 Tota...

Re: NSmen Expired Exit Permit ( 15 months overdue)
Ok you won't get prison. Fine and make up service. Not sure why i had so many grammatical errors in my reply, but somehow i cannot edit it. Corrected version: I would certainly hope it is a fine and NOT prison time. not sure why the NSmen in the article i listed above needed to be arrested and face...
