Re: Couple that ran off with $32m
I don't see the logic of paying for something you don't see...if you don't see it to buy it, don't buy. My understanding is that luxury brands push up their prices by tightly restricting supply and stock levels. People who are materialistic and judge each other by brands compete to obtain these pro...

Re: Mass exodus
There’s always the warehouse at Joo Koon. ie NTUC warehouse club. Supposedly cheaper. Most of the stuff isn’t a lot cheaper actually, plus you need to pay for a membership. If it was like Costco where the savings more than made up for the cost of the membership, I’d be open to it but from what I’ve...

Re: Couple that ran off with $32m
The general Internet view is that they were donned in by a Thai contact whom they'd spoken too. On the other hand, all it may take is a single login to a social media account including the ads tracing scripts and such. It requires some educated effort to stay under the radar. Same applies to cell c...

They were found in a hotel in JB.
Seems Thai cops knew they were there. No explanation.

I remember your thoughts on mortgage payments. I'm glad you've joined the SRS bandwagon.
I used to buy GE shares on their share scheme as well - they only offered a 15% discount up to 10% of your salary unfortunately.

Re: Is there a RETIREMENT AGE in Singapore?
This is why so many people try to get a retrenchment package in their late 50s , early 60s and then move on to another project or job until their CPF kicks in. IF you can walk out as I did at 57 with 13 months salary you've got a fair chunk towards a retirement package.

Re: Income Tax Cutoff Date for ICA
I would wait until you've received your notice of assessment. April 15 is the deadline for tax filing and most of the time you should have it by June. If not I'd wait for it. I don't believe you need to have PAID it for it to count. ICA are looking for proof of employment and income as part of their...

Re: SRS investment options
WRT SRS with hindsight and the availability of SSB (Singapore Savings Bonds) I would have just put my SRS into SSB. I've put them into various Great Eastern Funds which perform as you'd expect - the best ones are the funds that pay out (like a bond or REIT) - the compounding becomes quite interestin...

You can get PR as a former citizen. It's not likely but does happen.

Re: Transferwise do cheap transfers but more important can provide US, UK and Aus bank accounts
Thanks WD40. Do you have a referral code? Note though that Wise is still cheaper on USD to SGD (13708 from Instarem vs 137490 from wise). That is my largest usual conversion and the $40 makes up for the small loses on the payouts that Instarem may be better at. Have you thought about keeping it in ...

The problem is once you use a system like wise it can be hard to back out of their ecosystem.
