Re: PR rejected, need some perspective
Hi all, here are my/our stats: I tend to be impulsive with these things and my first thoughts on seeing the rejection were "call my boss, ask for a transfer to the head office in US", as I know he would be keen for me to move there and I would likely land there instantly on a green card eligible vi...

Re: Everyone I know is leaving or already left
I don't really understand stock market, but I think it the link between the real economy and stock market are tenuous, esp since SGX is so small. Maybe bond/swap markets are more relevant. I'll let the experts comment. Singapore's competitiveness is not going anywhere. The neighbors are just not up...

Re: REP expiring in 2 months time...advice needed
I'm going to assume this is a serious question and not just a stirrer... 1. Tax. I have no interest in paying ATO tax rates. Pension are taxed to some extent, but since you are retired, there should no significant enough income to attract a tax? 2. Medical care. Some of us have no way to re-establi...

Re: Best Way to Send Reasonably Important Documents to Singapore?
I usually use DHL. Packages go through their own network without any "last mile" or other courier services along the way. You need a person to receive the package though. Otherwise it will be returned to the sender. DHL is generally cheaper than Fedex or UPS.

Re: Everyone I know is leaving or already left
One of the comments from an Indian in The Atlantic's article (Wd40 posted above): 1. I don't think you'd find this true about education of South Asians, at least among the upper quartile. 2. I've often wondered whether the rote nature of education is one reason why East Asians, or at least the Japan...

Re: Everyone I know is leaving or already left
From my observation and my own interpretation of that observation, a random kid from a middle class family in OECD countries (including Japan) tends to be more well-adjusted compared to an sg's counterpart. Kids here are a bit off. They are much more prejudiced, too shy or too self-confident as if t...

calugaruvaxile is right Raj, none of the politicians have our best interests at heart. Just those of special interests. I actually trust Donald to be more sincere than any other serious candidate (and by that I mean candidate with more than a 5% chance of winning, not their own sincerity at being s...
