Re: Broken luggage claim

Years back my daughter turned up in Sg with a suitcase the size of a shipping container. In an effort to improve her traveling habits I found this link. https://www.onebag.com/ It's definitely worth a read. If you can get down to a single small bag it just makes travel so much easier, removes the wa...

Re: Broken luggage claim

Jetstar hahahah mwah hahaha :D OP, read the conditions of carriage. if you fly LCC, always get insurance Well, I have flown low cost airlines like Tiger, Jetstar and Air Asia for the last 8 years may be some 30 trips. If I had taken insurance on all of them I don't know much I would have lost $1000...

Re: Expat Salaries Falling Article

After living here for 8 years, I was looking to retire early for cheap in India. But surprisingly, my job now is much more stable than it ever was. My salary is not very high, yet it is very easy to live frugally in Singapore yet not lose out on quality of life. So now I am not so sure if I would wa...

Re: Exploring good school for indian kids moving from US

Local schools are very difficult to get for foreigners, so forget this option. Also I heard Yuvabharati the cheapest Indian school has problems with their lease renewal so their continuation from next year is suspect.

Re: Canadian moving to Singapore - personal banking

The cheapest option is to open an account with Interactive brokers. Fund it with Canadian dollars. Use their FX trading platform which charges US $2 per transaction and then you can withdraw it into a Singapore account. There is a monthly inactivity fee at Interactive Brokers though of US$10, if you...

Re: MAX limit for cash deposit into bank account?

I have withdrawn 500K HKD from DBS multicurrency account and took it to money changer and converted it to 80k SGD and then deposited those 80K SGD into DBS multicurrency account. In this entire process the only document I was asked is my IC by the money changer. This was 3 years ago though. Sent fro...

Re: SPR status - is it really worth it if your children have to pursue their dreams?

The only thing you can tell OP is that he should have studied the rules of the game before wearing his pads. After you come to the field and are facing the baller, you can't say, what if I get a bouncer. It is a different matter that you didn't make use of the benefits of PR or also saying that PR b...

Re: SPR status - is it really worth it if your children have to pursue their dreams?

Good point by bro75. Actually although you have been spr, there is nothing you have done that a local would do, i.e. sending your son to local school etc. He hasn't gone through the localized education and the history of Singapore to feel the value of NS. He has been brought up like an Indian from I...

Re: SPR status - is it really worth it if your children have to pursue their dreams?

I guess most Indian parents go through this dilemma and most of them would plan in advance and give up their PR early enough before the age(of 11?) at which NS call becomes unavoidable. Few of them will wait until last moment and then do a runner. Very very few of them actually let their kids do NS....

This was one of the first questions I asked in this forum some 8 years ago. SMS is the only person left who had helped me. Everyone else has disappeared.
