Parents with kids in local primary schools, please help

Hello all, Our son is turning 6 this year and we are tossing between local school and international school for next year. We would love to hear from parents who have recently sent their kids to local schools: How have your kids fared? Were/Are they happy? Do/Did they find school enjoyable? What leve...

Re: Grocery shopping

Hi there, we've just moved here and did our first food shop. It was a medium shop, certainly not a week's worth - no meat or alcohol, just basics. It was a bit of a shock $370. We went to Cold Storage in Jelita. Please can anyone give me advice on better/ cheaper places to shop. Thank you :???: To ...

I presume the OP means sole proprietorship, which is called "sole trader" in Australia. There have been some threads on this in the recent past, and it is possible. Recommend doing a search of the forum.

And next time: By all means select door-to-door service - the price difference is much smaller than what you're going to pay now! This absolutely would have been my preference, but alas, I did not organise the shipping on the US end. Now that it is in transit, my hands are tied. Anyone want to PM m...

Picking up items from Singapore port -- any guidance?

I recently inherited some chairs from my grandmother, which I arranged to have shipped from the USA to Singapore. The parcel is currently en route. However, the cargo service stops at Singapore port. (It was substantially more expensive to get door-to-door service on such a small item.) I am wonderi...

Re: Work-at-home parents, how do you do it???

Hi Ameraussie, have u considered to put your 2 kids into the pre-school (some of pre-school start from 7am to 7pm)? I'll move to SG from Syd in later May and booked my 2yrs old girl in the pre-school which starts from 7am to 7pm in bukit timar area (not as pricy as pats schoolhouse & Eden). Anyway,...

MY only suggestion is to use a relative or maid to take care of them; there doesn't seem to be (or is very rare) all day daycare but I could be wrong. Yes, I kinda figured it would come to having the maid look after them -- no relatives here. But I guess what I'm asking is: How does this work? And ...

Work-at-home parents, how do you do it???

Hi everyone, We are getting set to move to Singapore from Australia in the next month or two, and are currently looking at local kindergartens/nurseries for my two kids (5 and 2). I am finishing up my dissertation and do consulting work from home, which is currently facilitated by putting my kids in...

Can anyone share their experience with Phase 3 registration?

Hello local schoolers, We are getting ready to move to Singapore next year with our two kiddos, the eldest is eligible to start P1 in 2015, so we have a bit of time. Can anyone please share with me their experience of getting their little one into P1 for next year, 2013? I'm curious whether and how ...

OK. This wasn't the crux of my original post, but now you've got me thinking. Do people hang their clothes out to dry in Singapore, or mainly use dryers? I imagine space and humidity might be an issue, but the electricity costs of a dryer can be heinous. (Do most condos have, like, a laundry room?) ...

Thanks for the info

Hello CraigandMeagan, Thank you so much for this information. I realise it's been a while since you made your post, but I'm interested to learn how you've gone with your young ones in local school. We are planning a move from Australia to Singapore next year with little ones who will start P1 in 201...

Thanks all. As a stay-at-home/work-at-home parent of two small dirt-magnets, I think we are probably likely to be at the higher end of the usage scale than a working single or couple. I imagine that usage depends in part on the efficiency of the building and the air-con units too. In Australia, we c...

Thanks oildude. Yes, we are liable for the school costs. We really like the idea of the local school option, and will probably angle for that when No. 1 turns 6, provided we can get into a place that's close to where we live and it's a good fit. We are not concerned so much with school "ranking" as ...

Melbourne to Singapore ... Is this a good package?

Hello! I have found this site to be extremely useful in planning our possible move to Singapore, and am hoping you all can provide some feedback on our particular situation. We are a family of four, two kids under 5, with a modest lifestyle. For our holidays, we tend go for camping, staying in hoste...
