Re: Are we seeing less cinemas in the future?

I still like going to cinemas for action/adventure movies. The atmosphere is better. But I have only watched 2 movies in cinemas last year.

Re: What is the process of Renting a Place (before arriving to Singapore)

It is normal for people to stay in hotels, company apartments, friends, relatives or serviced apartments first before looking for a more long term residence in Singapore. It is required for landlords to verify your residence status in Singapore so you will need to show them a valid pass before they ...

Re: difficulties staying in a job for long in singapore (too much politics)

I do not have the breadth of experience in many SG companies, but from what I have experienced and heard, most multinational companies whose workplace culture is imported have better workplace environments. There are also MNCs with a local culture , those that have been here long enough with local m...

Re: Passport renewal

My first international flight was at age 23 from Manila to San Francisco for training at San Jose. I did not get much of a culture shock as there was a large Filipino community in Silicon Valley and I was training with many engineers from Asia. It was also easy to drive there as both the US and Phil...

Re: DBS Non Existant Fraud Controls

People have been repeatedly warned about #1 but the scammers know how to manipulate people psychologically. This is the reason i told my elderly parents to avoid digital banking for now especially as i am not near them.

Re: Where will you retire?

I was always categorised under others. I did ask about this when I started filling forms but I was told to put Filipino in race or check the others box. That was in 2005.

Re: Where will you retire?

The issue of PRs not becoming citizens in SG is sometimes the decision of the PR and sometimes the decision of the government . In Western countries, PR to citizenship is straightforward with the requirement only of having the requisite number of years of residency and language proficiency . Singapo...

Re: Where will you retire?

For myself, I am a city guy and not really cut out for rural life. I will probably retire in a city or a suburb. I plan to retire here in SG but it depends on my daughter. I am one of those who got PR when it was easy but the privilege was not extended to my child who was rejected multiple times an...

Re: Local school ? International school?

Local primary and secondary schools are hard to get into due to limited slots available to foreigners. For your 6 year old, the registration for local school primary 1 for year 2022 is already over. So the choice for your 6 year old is international school. For primary 2 to 5, you can apply for a sl...

Re: Am I insane to spend this much on rent with my salary

Looks like I am similar to WD40, Malcontent, and Addadude. I do use credit cards due to the rewards and convenience but I pay them all off at the end of the month. I find loans abhorrent although I do still have a mortgage which is the only loan I can abide and which I plan to pay off this year. Lik...
