Re: Where will you retire?

I was always categorised under others. I did ask about this when I started filling forms but I was told to put Filipino in race or check the others box. That was in 2005.

Re: Where will you retire?

The issue of PRs not becoming citizens in SG is sometimes the decision of the PR and sometimes the decision of the government . In Western countries, PR to citizenship is straightforward with the requirement only of having the requisite number of years of residency and language proficiency . Singapo...

Re: Where will you retire?

For myself, I am a city guy and not really cut out for rural life. I will probably retire in a city or a suburb. I plan to retire here in SG but it depends on my daughter. I am one of those who got PR when it was easy but the privilege was not extended to my child who was rejected multiple times an...

Re: Local school ? International school?

Local primary and secondary schools are hard to get into due to limited slots available to foreigners. For your 6 year old, the registration for local school primary 1 for year 2022 is already over. So the choice for your 6 year old is international school. For primary 2 to 5, you can apply for a sl...

Re: Am I insane to spend this much on rent with my salary

Looks like I am similar to WD40, Malcontent, and Addadude. I do use credit cards due to the rewards and convenience but I pay them all off at the end of the month. I find loans abhorrent although I do still have a mortgage which is the only loan I can abide and which I plan to pay off this year. Lik...

Re: PR REP renew rejected

You should be able to visit with a social visit pass.
I know of people who got EPs after renouncing their PRs but they applied for EPs after a few years of the renunciation. I am not sure if there is some sort of required time gap between renunciation and subsequent EP application.

Re: Germany travel Covid 19 and holiday markets

I do not know what a Christmas market is but the relaxed travel restrictions to some countries is interesting and many of those with cabin fever will go. I personally think that the multiple testing requirements are still a burden during travelling.

Re: Does living near a good friend a bad idea?

It depends on your culture and your personality. I am from the Philippines and we are very neighborly. We tend to make friends with people who live close by. A good friend who wants to move nearby is mostly welcome news to us. The key word is "good". A good friend will accept that sometimes you do n...

Re: PR working remotely for SG company

It is not illegal in Sg for a Sg Pr to work remotely overseas for a Sg based company but her time being non-resident may be counted against her when it comes to REP renewal.

Re: "Safe distancing enforcement officers; enter/search residences, without a warrant"

I am somewhat worried by non-uniformed government employees having the extraordinary power to force you to open your home to them. Are these people - qualified ? - trained at the same level as uniformed services? - subjected to stringent background checks? Are we able to quickly verify their identif...

Re: Children mental health and physical health

For P5 local school, the time is from 7:30am to 1:30pm which is not bad. There are some days with CCA and other activities that stretch that time to 4:30 but with COVID, these CCA is mostly remote now.
