Hi Mercury1, I'm not very familiar with the local systems so I'll leave those questions to people who know what they are talking about. 7 - Is it possible for a child to join a private school (International School) mid-year? How easy or feasible is it? Yes. Every International School will have someo...

Hi Hughes11, We are in an unfurnished place. There are a lot around, and everything is negotiable when renting here. We didn't like one of the built in robes (was just ugly and deteriorating) so we asked that they remove it. Which was no issue. Just remember that apartments/condos here are much smal...

Re: OFS vs AIS

Hi offshoreoildude, Even though AIS offers IB - I wouldn't put a child in there unless you're planning to continue through the Aussie education system. Could you elaborate why you would say that? They offer IB all the way through to the diploma program, with the option of NSW curriculum in senior ye...

Hi Col, We dont have a car and rely on public transport / taxis. I have a 7yo and 4yo. We live about 4km drive from AIS (over near Marymount MRT). Our boys get on the bus at 8am (arrive before 8.30) and then they are home by 3.30pm. Costs just under SG$400 a term per child. Busses are the 20 seater ...

Hi Vanessa, This is my comment to another in the forum about 6 months ago: " We did consider Avondale. As I said in the above linked post, we visited them and had a tour. It definitely has a more small community primary school feel to it. The staff are nice and were welcoming to visitors. The school...

Re: Best schools for 3 children from Australia

Hi Vanessa, Firstly, it is well worth reading back through the posts in this forum and the Education & Enrichment sub forum. There are a number of good posts on the various schools. That said, there is nothing better than actually going and seeing the schools for yourself. If you have the opportunit...

Hi Col311, I was in exactly the same position you are in. Management role, >10 years experience. Well over the P1 salary requirements. No degree. There were no issues at all. This was 6 months ago so still fairly relevant. I suspect you would have no issues either. MNCs do this sort of thing all the...

Majority of International Schools are IB Curriculum, have a high number of expat teaching staff with significant experience, and have world class facilities. The IB does not provide statistics for individual school results, but does provide global statistics on each exam session. Some schools will i...

We bought in a hard drive full of tv shows and movies that were legally ripped from our collection. We also bought the actual disks too (as proof of purchase).

As far as we know it was never even looked at.

We shop at a wet market for fruit and vegetables. It has pretty much everything we could buy back in Australia, with a whole lot more tropical fruits (Love dragon fruit!) and much fresher asian greens (bok choi etc.) They still have all the usual western vegetables like potatoes, pumpkin and onions....

Hi Tony, Congratulations on the decision to come up. We moved here in April. If we had our time again we would have bought a lot less stuff with us. All of this assumes you aren't on an extravagant expat package and will probably be looking for a relatively low price condo. We ended up in a 1300 squ...

We shipped our entire DVD collection over as part of the move. As far as I know it was never looked at. We have 100% legally purchased DVDs and they were all shipped in plastic drawers in paper sleeves (we convert all our dvds to digital and keep the originals and original covers for proof of owners...

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I guess "nice" is subjective. Nice to me is clean and newer looking. Since buying a car seems to be quite pricy, we will most likely have just one. Husband may be the one taking MRT while I drive our son to and from school, etc. Do take a look at the school bus servi...
