Re: WDA letter about Skills Development Levy (SDL) contribut

An overdue followup: I ignored the letter, a year has passed, and I never heard back. So apparently this was just a fishing expection on the WDA's part. :-k

PR running out, need nominee director for existing Pte Ltd

Howdy Sg expats, long time no see :) I no longer live in Sg, my PR is running out this year and I have come to the sad conclusion that I won't be returning to renew it. However, I'm the sole director of a Pte Ltd which I'd like to keep running. 1) How is the residency status of company directors enf...

This would be an opportunity for a Singapore software company to actually develop a site similar to kickstarter for Singaporean entrepreneurs. At least four have already been launched: 8squirrels, Togather.asia, Firecracker and Spark Facility. All have died a quick death. To reiterate, though, I ha...

Kickstarter is not being supported in Singapore? So what about these? https://www.kickstarter.com/discover/places/singapore-sg They seemed to have been funded nicely. Per Kickstarter's FAQ , "project creation is currently available to individuals in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand a...

Kickstarter-type crowdfunding in Singapore

Greetings, I'm fairly seriously considering using Kickstarter -type crowdfunding for a project in Singapore. This would be for a highly technical product for a specialized audience, the goal being to get enough customers to commit to make it worth my while to build this. I already have a long list o...

Given URA's stance, which is likely to get turned into a "statutory instrument" sooner or later, I don't think we should be recommending that anybody become an Airbnb (etc) host in Singapore, at least without reading this thread and understanding the thin rope they'll be walking on. But fo...

Airbnb legal in Singapore after all?

So there's a general view that subletting private property (condos, houses etc, not HDBs) for periods of less than six months is illegal, but I stumbled onto an interesting post on Quora that challenges this. I quote: [quote] "...the Guideline is not law as it is not codified in a statutory ins...

In places like Japan, where seals are very important, legally registered seals (jitsuin) are made by hand, which means it's possible to forensically differentiate an authentic stamp from a copy under magnification. They're thus arguably more secure than signatures. Companies and even most individual...

WDA letter about Skills Development Levy (SDL) contribution

Greetings, I recently received a rather odd letter from the WDA about the Skills Development Levy, addressed to my company complete with a case number. It states that all employers have to pay SDL, provides details of how it's calculated and paid, says that employers may be required to furnish infor...

Warning: "Singapore Company Register" is bogus

Got a official-looking letter today titled "VERIFICATION OF INFOMRATION" from an outfit calling itself the "Singapore Company Register", requiring me to "verify" information in their database and making vague threats about having to respond in one week. The letter style...

Thanks all

ComingSoon, you're absolutely right re: Japanese pensions, updated post now live. The exact pension numbers aren't hugely consequential though, since they're considered "income" for all totals.

Tax comparison of Sing, San Fran, Helsinki, Tokyo and Sydney

Howdy folks, Wrote up a little comparison of the tax situation for entrepreneurs across five countries including our favorite little red dot. [quote]More specifically, in each of San Francisco, Helsinki, Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore, if your business earns $100,000 in net revenue and pays you a “rame...

EP renewal taking longer than validity, plus impact on PR

Long time no see, Singapore Expats. And while what I'm about to ask sounds FAQ-y, I'm not having much luck finding hard data searching here or on MOM's site, so here's hoping you've got the answers. So I'm asking on behalf of a friend who finds himself in a bit of a (potential) pickle. Long s...

Ta! Doing good, and still haven't quite given up on our plans of returning to the Little Red Dot some day, but by 2014 we'll have choose yea or nay -- and the arrival of the future NSman jpatokal jr isn't making the choice any easier. :?
