Surrender Employment Pass card before applying a new one?

Post by Tigerslayer » Wed, 07 Sep 2011 10:40 pm

Hi guys,

QQs (I tried to search but couldn't find an answer to this)

I am applying for a new EP with another company after having my EP cancelled from my previous job.

I have yet to surrender my existing EP card to MOM although i have received the letter stating it is cancelled and was wondering are there any guidelines for this?

- Will it hinder my existing EP application by still holding my old pass card?
- Are there any time limits before having to surrender the old card back to MOM?

The letter gave instructions for returning the card but was not very clear on these details or even if it is mandatory to return it at all.

Thanks for the help :)

I did find this on MOM site:-
After Cancellation of Pass

The employer/authorised third party (e.g. Employment Agency) acting on behalf of a company has to:

Print the cancellation acknowledgment letter (if applicable) and Short Term Visit Pass (if applicable) via EP Online. The foreigner has to surrender the Short Term Visit Pass to the Immigration Checkpoint Officer at the point of departure.

Return the Employment Pass or other related passes within seven days from the date of cancellation by:

- posting it to MOM Work Pass Division;
- depositing it into the Deposit Box at the Employment Pass Services Centre;
- surrendering it at the Immigration Checkpoints at the point of departure.
This makes it sound like the company should have taken my card from me or as an ex-employee do these guidelines fall under my remit also?

The employer should, but it's really either/or.

Reminds me of the recent time I emigrated on an LTVP. Instructions are that you hand in your card at immigration.

So I went to Changi, and through immigration, and then a few metres to the side to hand in my card at the immigration desk.

For the official to tell me I had to hand it in at Kallang Road. Lol, good one!

I ended up demanding he accept the surrender of my card!
