hi queenbee, how tall are you exactly? sad to say but what i've heard is SIA will strictly not hire ppl who are less than 158cm. there are very strict when comes to hieght issue. Neutral

hi queenbee,
For the height issue, we dont really know what is exactly the "cut -off" even though the requirement states 1.58m.
I was there during the last walk-in. There was a girl who is infront of me and was measured 1.56m and the lady asked her to touch the red tap on the wall, she managed to touch it (tip toed) and pass it.
BUT the girl who was behind me (i was waiting for her to go into the waiting rm with me thus was there to see her being measured) was disqualified. She was measured at 1.55m, the lady kept asking her to stand straight and she was nice enough not to press her "bun" down however she was still measured at 1.55 and she was asked to go back without given a chance to touch the red tape.

If you are keen to go for the interview, just go and try. Even if you got rejected, at least you know you have tried, if not you will just keep on pondering about it Smile

Above is not factual because SIA do not take gilrs below 1.58m otherwise they will be contradicting what they advertised in their website.

Thank you sstan123, a point I have so often vainly tried to point out is applicants have to be tall enough to reach the overhead lockers. For those who like to argue: you don't need to work for an airline to realize that it should be obvious.

queenbee if you like to know more about any interview tips, i suggest you go to www.ourcabincrew.com sign up for luke's talks or purchase his program. I purchased his program, made lots of preparation and got into SIA recently. It will definitely prepare you well enough and that will give you all the confidence you need to ace the interviews!

To sstan123(luke) hopefully you know who i am, im just so grateful towards you. Smile

Umm, sorry, there is an ICAO requirement, which is deemed to the airline operator certificate (AOC). Unless SQ have a waiver (which may be possible), then the usual ICAO swim in a pool fully uniformed with a life jacket, stands for both cabin and tech crew. You would not be able to fly into many countries without being certified.

I am guessing then that SQ CC get a waiver? Can anyone confirm?

For all cabin crew wannabe I think you should heed Plavt's advice. Plavt may not be an ex crew but he has indepth knowledge of cabin crew stuff. Besides, Plavt is kind enough to give free advice.

There is something strange about the issue; seems Japan airline's simply assume their applicants can swim (so I am told a while back by flight attendant whose was posting here) while some mention they never went through any water competency test with certain other carriers. Although it is standard on all British carriers that much I am certain.

Plavt - hi again (after a long absence) - I will try to find the ICAO rule stipulating it. I might be slightly mistaken in as much that it could be a LOCAL country requirement to airlines (i.e. fly into US, FAA requirement). However, my rusty old brain does recall that it was an ICAO requirement. Not much use having CC direct the SLF (Self Loading Freight) out of the A/C with lifejackets if the C/C cannot swim!

[edit: explanation of acronym]

i'm malaysian Wink

ahh... its been almost a good 3 years since i last came here Smile

well its obvious much have been said.. just take a look at the amount of post. amazing! and i believe the same good old questions are being asked, not that i can blame anyone as i too understand the feelings that most of you are goin thru right now.. or at least i would like to think so :p

just a word from someone who has been there and done that. i can actually go on and on and on but i guess it's never ending. all i want to say to the ppl here is that, from the moment i started filling up the application form to the day i packed my bags and left klia and till this very moment.. i've never looked back ever since.

bla bla bla.. i'm sure you've read the pro's and con's of the job and etc (which job is perfect? well only to a few lucky one's i guess) but what motivates you that keeps you going.. and for me its $$$ Smile

and as for those with doubts, be it height, weight, age, scars, inability to swim and etc.. time and time again and i will repeat it once more.. it is not what that is tangible that matters, of course to a certain extend but it's the substance.. your confidence.. the way u carry yourself and yes luck does play a part, perhaps a big part so there's only one way to find out right? put on your best show and good luck Wink

just do it ya'll!

p/s - shoot me a pm should u have any personal questions.. if i can answer, i will.. give me some time thou.. u know why Smile

zizdnyll,

i take it that you only have spm? do you meet their requirements? as in the credits and b4 for english? and from your post, u mentioned working at a restaurant right? how long has it been?

well if you don't exactly have any plans on the interview day, why not just give it a shot? but do come prepared at least..i've heard all sort of funny stories from ppl making it through the interviews Smile

and if you don't make it, at least there's the experience that u gained.. and perhaps then, u might want to give yourself some time to either gain more working experience or even take up a diploma in the mean time? its never the end until u say it is Smile
