Hiten fell in love at first sight when he saw Gauri shooting the Breeze commercial five years ago. But their love flowered only later when they did a serial together.
Gauri wants their firstborn to be a girl, while Hiten wants a baby boy.
Gauri and Hiten fight, as Gauri is a cleanliness freak, and Hiten keeps messing up the cupboard she neatly arranges.
Hiten and Gauri were married in Gauri’s hometown, Pune. They bribed the pandit to finish the marriage in half an hour! On their honeymoon, Gauri fell into the pool and broke her toe. Hiten called for an ambulance to take her to hospital
Keerti and Sharad recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary, and are all set for the competition.
Keerti says, "Sharad is a good dancer but is not comfortable in choreographed dancing. But he is a party animal and loves club dancing."
Sharad adds, "When the producers of the show approached us last month, we were sceptical since we act in serials daily. We gave it a good thought and decided to participate. Keerti and I practice between 2 to 3 am every day!"
Manav & Shweta Gohil Narrating a love-struck moment, a dreamy eyed Manav Gohil, television actor and anchor, says, "After our marriage in Paris, one evening Shweta and I walked hand in hand by the river. Just the two of us, in love with each other... that moment... the twilight, the golden sky... everything was so beautiful. I can never forget that moment ever in my life. Also, the moment when I gifted Shweta a pet dog - the reaction I got was worth a million dollars. It made me feel so happy seeing her happy. She loves the dog and we've named it Mowgli. These were my most unforgettable romantic moments.
Shweta was looking gorgeous today. They danced on the Beautiful beats of "radha Kaise na Jaley" from lagaan.Shweta was controlling the whole dance perfectly .Also we were able to see her "Trademark" moves that reminded "San Sananan" from Last years telly awards.
The most surprising but impressive thing was that this time Raja Came to the party. We saw a much improved performance for him and actually we were able to see that he is also the part of that performace which was completely missing last time around.Judges also praised his performence .They did all the things right and ended up with 27 out 30 points. The only thing that made them loose these points were some moves which wasn`t correctly narrated by the choreographer. But all an all a complete show.
That was not all the greatest news came when the combined result was announced.jode # 4
Shweta and Raja came through at the Number 1 spot. And as we see that Raja is also improving and is just about there we can sense That they might go on to win the title !!
Arjun Punjj wants to ride his way to glory on his motorbike, his lucky mascot on screen
Arjun Punjj aka Prem in Star One's Saathi Re is not a motorbike freak, yet he considers motorbikes his lucky mascot. So much so that he makes it a point to ride a bike in his introduction scene for ever serial he does.
He even went a step further and requested the producer of Nach Baliye 2 to let him make an entry on stage on a bike. "I wanted to keep a bike in the background during my performance. But the channel refused my request. So I guess I have to dance without my lucky charm and keep my fingers crossed for the dance show," he says.
The actor is also positive about his other show Saathi Re being a hit. Why? "My last two shows, Sanjivani and Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, where I had been introduced on a bike had become very popular. So, I am very optimistic about this show too," he says. "This time, I make a grand entry where I am seen speeding on Suzuki Hayabusa along the sea face in Worli. It was the costliest scene I have ever shot."
However, Arjun admits that he doesn't really like to ride a bike in real life. "I am crazy about four-wheelers. The moment I see a good car, like a Ferrari, a BMW or a Rolls Royce, I feel like getting behind the wheel. However, given an opportunity to ride a bike like Hayabusa, I guess I'd be game for it too," he says.

Gurdip Kohli to take a break!
The chirpy Gurdip Kohli is all set to take a break after her marriage to Arjun Punjj on December 10. “I will be taking a sabbatical for some time after my marriage,” says Gurdip, who’s busy these days with Sindoor Tere Naam Ka. But what will happen to Sindoor... then? “Of course, I will see to it that the serial doesn’t get disturbed,” she says. Gurdip is also dancing alongside her fiance in Nach Baliye 2 on Star One. “Getting prepared for our sangeet was one of the top three reasons we’re taking part in this dance show,” she jokes.

Gurdeep Kohli-"Many of my non-mumbaikar friends say that Mumbai is rude!"
Well, I am a true mumbaiite! But many of my friends and colleagues say that 'people here are very rude to talk to, in our town, everyone has an open heart.' Even Arjun says the same, as he is from Delhi. And I quite agree to them, as people here are always on a run. They are forever running behind money, and think that it's going to fly away. In my opinion, London is the rudest of all. Even in their airlines, the stewards and hostess never trade a smile.
She loves the Navratri season and always dresses up to go play dandiya.
Narayani Shastri took some time off her hectic schedule of rehearsing for Nach Baliye to dress up in the traditional avatar at a Roopam showroom.
“I’ve actually won prizes for dandiya during my college days. For me, it’s fun thing dressing up and going for garba.”
This year, too, the actress plans to get some time off to go and indulge in her favourite dancing style.
Gaurav Chopraa and Narayani Shastri
Narayani Shastri and Gaurav Chopraa are the second couple to be voted out of Star One’s dance show, Nach Baliye 2. In a shocking episode shot on Wednesday at Film City, the pair who had topped the charts found themselves being shown the door by their fellow contestants.
Even though Sharad and Keerti once again found themselves in the bottom two, they beat Narayani and Gaurav 5-2. One of the reasons for their inclusion could be that they have more friends in this contest than Narayani and Gaurav.
‘We were naïve’
Says an insider, “Narayani and Gaurav were zapped when they were told that they would have to leave the competition. Kunal Kohli couldn’t control himself and said aloud that the better couple had been voted out.”
When we spoke to Gaurav, he was very forthcoming. “When we were told that we were in the bottom two with Keerti and Sharad, I told Narayani that we were the ones who were going to go. But Narayani is so naïve. She said, ‘We’re the better dancers and will not be denied our due’. Of course, we were then shown the door.”
The couple accepted the decision with tremendous grace and left the show without a fuss. “ It wasn’t easy to hide our disappointment, but we managed,” Gaurav adds.
Bunch of fakes
Says Narayani, who earlier refrained from talking, “After we were told that Keerti and Sharad will remain, all the other contestants tried to express surprise over our elimination. What can I say? First they eliminated us, then they pretended like nothing had happened. Kitne stupid log hain. If you have taken a stand, stand by it. As far as I know, Hussain and Tina and Gauri and Hiten voted for us. They are not biased or insecure.”
Gaurav is also confused over the manner in which the competition is being conducted.
“Our jodi number is 01 and in the first episode we performed according to our serial number. But in the second round, a chit system was introduced and we performed in random order. I was happy with this change because the judges tend not to give high marks to the first few performers.
They like to compare other performances and then raise the bar. But this week again, we were asked to perform in serial order. Why aren’t we ever informed about these changes?”
Favouritism
The ousted couple is yet to think about returning to the show as the wild card entry. “I’m so disillusioned that I don’t know what we’ll do. We were part of a puppet show, so we may decide not to return. Or we may come back with renewed vigour and beat the s**t out of everybody,” says Gaurav.
But does this new format make sense? Not for this couple. “If this goes on, the better dancers will be thrown out by their fellow contestants.
Nobody wants competition. Everybody wants to win. So a weak pair like Keerti and Sharad may find themselves going far ahead. Plus, there’ll be favouritism for friends. At this rate, the best dancing couple in the contest will not win the coveted title. Think of it, they are making a reality show!”
Highlights of the Oct 10 episode
Kunal Kohli was very disappointed over Narayani and Gaurav’s exit
Shweta Kawaatra and Manav Gohil’s tremendously improved performance fetched them 30 points
Yash Tonkk and Gouri also walked away with 30 points; ditto for Tanaaz-Bakhtyaar
Shweta Tiwari and Raja scored only 22 points in this round
Keerti and Sharad scored just 15 points, and Saroj Khan questioned why they sacked their choreographer, Kiran Giri
What the others have to say
Hiten Tejwani: The better dancers have been voted out. This will happen again. Gauri and I were against this format right from the beginning.
Raja Chaudhary: Keerti and Sharad are still here, so they must have more friends.

Written Update : Oct 16 episode (Shaadi)
« on: October 16, 2006, 04:05:48 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first performance of the night is from Keerti/Sharad. They danced to the song “Tujhe Dekh Kar Dil Mera Dole”.
Judges Comments:
Saroj: You danced beautifully and the atmosphere was good. Choreographer made good use of the stage. Very good. 6/10
Kunal: I don’t agree with Saroj ji. I felt that the synchronization and coordination between you two was not perfect. I like Keerti was better today and felt that Sharad was slow. Sharad said that his dhoti got stuck in his leg making his movement slow. There was too much jumping going on in your performance and said that you should have the done the cartwheel only when you are good at it. 6/10
Malaika: I felt that there was no energy and there were problems with coordination too. On the positive side, I think you guys have realized that you should work hard after coming in the bottom two in the last two episodes. 7/10
Overall Score: 19/30
2nd performace is from Gouri/Yash. They danced to the song “Aaj Hain Saghai”.
Judges Comments:
Malaika: Your performace was almost flawless. There was good chemistry between you two and the choreographer made good use of the stage. From an average performance is the first episode you guys have really raised remarkably in this performance.
Kunal: “Dil se maja aiya”. Gouri was graceful and Yash steps were perfect. Mogambo khush hua.
Saroj: My Vaijanti Mala danced today (compliment to Gouri). You guys danced good today and looked like Yash was in a hurry today, as he went off the rhythm sometimes. Hats off to your expressions. You have improved a lot.

3rd performace is from Shweta/Manav. They danced to the song “Rang Rang Main…Sang Sang Main”
Judges Comments:
Kunal: I am eating up my comments that I made about you guys in the first episode. Manav is a very good dancer and Shweta, you too also. Superb. Kuna later added that he did not really like the steps but in spite of not liking the steps I really enjoyed your performace. 9/10
Malaika: I am happy to see you guys. You guys are excellent. Manav is an effortless dancer and I wish I could blow my sithi whenever Manv is dancing. You guys are looking beautiful as a couple. 9/10
Saroj: I disagree with the Kunal as the steps were beautiful. It was very different, unlike the usual ones. Kunal didn’t like your steps because he didn’t see the usual steps in your dance. Choreographer deserves a big hand and you guys are looking stunning. Finally she gave them one sithi. 9/10
Overall Score: 27/30

Judges Comments:
Saroj: “Should I dance also?” She did one of their steps. 9/30

Malaika: Everyone is praising Tina. Shouldn’t we praise Hussain also? I liked the concept of your dance. You guys created a completely different element than your competitors. You guys have great chemistry. 9/30
Overall Score: 27/30
5th performance is from Gurdeep/Arjun. They danced to the song “Bole Chudiyan”. They tripped while dancing but continued dancing.
Kunal later said that it was an accident and it does happen sometimes and we don’t cut marks for that.
Judges Comments:
Kunal: Gurdeep danced well and was in the mood also. Arjun looked nervous and asked him whether he was nervous. Malaika replied: “Obviously he is nervous as he is getting married soon.” Kunal later added that the dance didn’t really use the song. 7/10
Malaika: Gurdeep danced really good and you were calm every after you tripped. Gurdeep looked nervous after he tripped. Your act was nice. 7/10
Saroj: I want to ask the choreographer what the concept was? and the choreographer replied that “It was just a fun concept after shaadi”. Saroj replied back by saying that it didn’t convey and looked like just a group dance without the shaadi concept. 7/10
Overall Score: 21/30
6th performance is from Gauri/Hiten. They danced to the song “Aab Cha Hain Sar Phute” (old song).
Judges Comments:
Saroj: You guys have improved a lot. Regarding the choreography, I should say that there was lot of things going around in your dance. I was not sure whether I should see more of the group dancing or the jodi dancing. 6/20
Malaika: You guys have really worked hard. I think your choreographer has given you steps that you are compatible with you, which has improved your dancing. 7/10
Kunal: I agree with the 2 Khan judges. You have shown a great improvement. 7/10
Overall Score: 20/30
7th performance is from Bhaktyaar/Tanaaz. They danced to the song “Mahi Ve”
Judges Comments:
Saroj: Superb^5. I have now words. It’s too good. Your choreographer deserves a big hand. Tanaaz danced really well. 10/10
Kunal: Superb. Maaza aya. It was new and refreshing. 10/10
Malaika: I might give you guys a 10 but before that I would like to give both of you a hug. 10/10
Overall Score: 30/30
8th performance is from Shweta/Raja. They danced to the song “ Kali Teri Choti”.
Judges Comments:
Malaika: I can’t say that I enjoyed it. Thoda maaza aya, but mostly because of Raja. 7/10
Kunal: I liked Shweta’s performance but it was not up to your performance. Raja is showing some improvement. 6/10
Saroj: Fire was missing from your performance. The choreographer has not utilized their talent. 7/10
Overall Score: 20/30
Elimination:
The 2 jodi with the least votes are Keerti/Sharad and Gurdeep/Arjun. As all of us already know that Keerti/Sharad were eliminated. Gurdeep praised them for their big improvement and so did Keerti for Gurdeep/Arjun.
Posted: Thu Oct 19, 2006 3:50 pm Post subject: Sharad Keerti Finally Out of Nach Baliye
October 13, 2006
The inevitable has finally happened. After two successive escapes from elimination, Keerti Gaikwad and Sharad Kelkar are finally out of Star Ones Nach Baliye 2. In the episode shot in Film City on Wednesday evening, the Kelkars failed to edge out Gurdip Kohli and Arjun Punjj, who were in the bottom two along with them.
Voted out
Says an insider, While the votes were being cast, Keerti and Sharad looked relaxed because they thought that they would complete a hat-trick, considering most of the co-contestants are their friends.
But its clear that the other contestants have taken judge Kunal Kohlis comments from last week seriously. After Narayani and Gaurav Chopraa were booted out, Kunal expressed his disappointment over the contestants having voted for their friends instead of the better dancers. He had said, The better couple has been voted out.
With Sharad and Keerti gone, Gurdip Kohli and Arjun Punjj are now at the bottom of the list. Insiders insist that Hiten and Gauri are now leading the pack, followed by Shweta and Raja. Hussain and Tina are third, while Tanaaz and Bakhtyaar, whove been rocking the stage, have found themselves on a wet wicket.
Gurdip says, Arjun and I were not nervous when the contestants started casting their ballot. Its a game. Only one of us will win and we are well aware of that fact.
Interestingly, Keerti and Gurdip are close friends.
Sharad: Were still in
When we spoke to Sharad, he refused to admit that he was out of the show. Tanaaz is out. She had a fall yesterday, he said rather cheekily. The moment we told him we were going to quote him, he said, Ill call you back. Im entering a meeting.

Nach Baliye 2 couple gets go-ahead to stay on show
Indo-Asian News Service
New Delhi, October 31, 2006
Television celebrity couple Shweta Kawatra and Manav Gohli, accused of buying 200 SIM cards and distributing it among friends to get more votes for STAR One's Nach Baliye 2 dance contest, have been given an all-clear by the TV channel as well as colleagues.
The couple performed on the dance show on Monday. STAR One has reiterated that the rules and regulations for Nach Baliye 2 have not been violated in any way by any of its participants, including Manav and Shweta.
"We have definitely encouraged all Nach Baliye participants to canvas for votes, and many of them have gone the extra mile to do so - from printing posters and distributing them, travelling to different parts of the country and canvassing, urging their family, friends and fans to vote for them in large numbers, to getting special 'vote for us' T-shirts created," said Sameer Nair, CEO Star Entertainment India, in a press release.
According to the rules of Nach Baliye 2, no more than 20 votes will be accepted from any one landline, cell number or e-mail id per episode.
"The participants are committed to abiding by all the rules of the show, and our systems are robust enough to ensure that all set rules and regulations are followed," added Nair.
This is the second time Shweta and Manav are in trouble. On the very first episode of the show, Saroj Khan had fired a salvo at Shweta saying, "Your movements are not lady-like."
This time Gurdeep Kohli and Arjun Punj were voted out by the audiences and their colleagues.

Nach Baliye contestants air their views on Manav and Shweta buying 200 SIM cards to up their vote scores
Gouri Tonnk, Nach Baliye 2 contestant
I don?t believe Manav and Shweta could do something like this. And, even if voting for oneself happens on the show, it is not a crime.
Hiten Tejwani, Nach Baliye 2 contestant
I don?t know how to react to that news. It?s not against the rules for a couple to vote for themselves. It is all fair in a game. All said and done Manav and Shweta are my friends and I don?t want to comment any further.
Gurdip Kohli, Nach Baliye 2 contestant
No comment.
Rajev Paul, Nach Baliye 1 contestant
I stand by Manav and Shweta. I don?t think they could have done something like this. There is nothing wrong in asking for votes. Last year, even I asked for votes from all my friends. I made STD calls to relatives asking them to vote for me. I even asked net savvy friends to vote for me through the internet.
Varun Badola, Nach Baliye 1 contestant
It is perfectly alright to vote for oneself and the channel allows it. Last year, we made a mistake by not voting for ourselves.
Everybody around us got over a lakh votes while we got just 10,000 to 15,000 votes. If SMSes are vital for judging a contestant's fate, then there is nothing wrong with buying votes.
Sai Deodhar, Nach Baliye 1 contestant
I am not surprised to hear about this. It happens all the time. All couples vote for themselves, it is just that Manav and Shweta got caught. But telling family members and friends to vote is only human.

Sameer Nair, chief executive officer of Star Entertainment India
Chief executive officer of Star Entertainment India Sameer Nair stresses in an interview to Subhash K Jha that Shweta Kwatra and Manav Gohil, the two contestants on their show Nach Baliye currently under a cloud for allegedly rigging SMS votes, have done no wrong by buying 200 pre-paid SIM cards and distributing them to friends and acquaintances in order to garner votes. Excerpts:
What?s the truth about Manav Gohil and Shweta Kwatra feeding SMS votes for themselves on Nach Baliye?
I feel sorry for those two contestants. They?ve done nothing wrong. In any of these competitive shows, there?s a certain amount of canvassing. We have our own in-built security measures to ensure no one misuses the voting system on Nach Baliye. For example, we allow no more than 20 votes from the same e-mail ID or phone number. Last year during Nach Baliye, Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar were running scrolls on cable systems from the interiors of Maharashtra. This is legitimate garnering of votes. This year Tenaaz and Bakhtyaar are distributing tee-shirts with their own pictures at traffic signals. As a matter of routine, all couples try in their own way to optimise their votes.
But buying so many SIM cards?
It?s only routine to get your uncle, aunt and other relatives to vote for you. Because in any case, after 20 calls from the same number, we automatically stop taking votes. A contestant needs to buy two million SIM cards to make a difference. So I think we?re being unfair to these two contestants. There?s nothing wrong in getting your relatives and friends to vote for you. When on Zee?s Sa Re Ga Ma, Debojit won, it was said he got votes from his home state Assam. When Abhijit Sawant won on Sony?s Indian Idol, there was talk of Maharashtrian votes. When Sachin and Supriya won Nach Baliye last year, there was a feeling that Maharashtra was behind them in spite of their great performance. The contestants do play up their constituencies. Manav and Shweta?s SIM cards going into the wrong hands is really not their fault.
Last year there was a similar controversy on Nach Baliye regarding Manish Goel and Poonam Narula.
It was exactly the same situation. They bought SIM cards and gave them to their friends and family. We?re aware of this strategy. But as I said, we block the SIM card after 20 votes.
A few weeks ago, there was a mini-scandal when on Nach Baliye, it was alleged that Saroj Khan was asked to give one of the contestants Shweta Tiwari a 10, and that you asked for it.
Well? Shweta got eliminated. So her supposed friendship with me didn?t help her. Seriously, this is too funny.

Mumbai Mirror?s TV critic Anil Thakraney says those rigging votes on reality shows deserve the same punishment that match-fixers in cricket have got
I was not at all surprised to hear some contestants from Nach Baliye have been busy rigging the voting process by palming off SIM cards to all and sundry. There?s just too much pride and bucks at stake for the winners, and therefore the temptation to tinker with the process can always be expected. Now, add to that other influencing factors like judges? subjectivities, unreasonable demands from sponsors, regional skews, voter biases, and you have a simmering cauldron of fraud and deceit.
I think engineering of votes by contestants must be treated on par with match-fixing in cricket, the offenders must be similarly punished and humiliated. Because, just as in sports, when you allow participants to play with the process, you are allowing them to play with viewers? emotions. After all, we audiences do invest a lot in these shows, we cry with the losers, we lustily cheer the winners, we live their lives for the period. And then, when we find someone cheated out and won, it can be a truly disappointing situation.
It then becomes the responsibility of programme producers to do their damndest to drastically reduce, if not totally eliminate, opportunities for manipulation. For instance, in the case of Nach Baliye, judging must only be done by ace dancers and choreographers, and audiences must not be allowed to vote in at all, and if that has to be done because the sponsors won?t have it otherwise, enough checks and balances must be put in place to snip out mischief.
One of the key reasons reality shows are so popular across the world, is that contestants are almost always ordinary people placed in extraordinary situations. They truly represent the common man, which is why emotions run high, and it hurts when the better candidate loses. Contestants guilty of fooling with our feelings must immediately be ejected out. If we could do that to Azhar and Jadeja, then why not Manav and Shweta?

This is one of the biggest news to have hit the world of entertainment this part of the Indian Ocean. Celebrity couple TV actors Manav Gohil and Shweta Kwatra had allegedly distributed 200 sim cards to their friends and acquaintances to vote for them via SMS. For the uninitiated lemma give you dope on what ?Nach Baliye 2? is all about. It?s the second coming for a very popular dance based reality show on Star One channel where celebrity couples from the world of television shake their booty and other than a panel of judges dance guru Saroj Khan, beautilicious Malaika Arora Khan (More famous for her repeated wardrobe malfunction on the show) and film director Kunal Kohli (Of ?Hum Tum? and ?Fanaa? fame).
Now, the judges are a mere prop for it is the coveted public vote via SMS that decides the fate of the warring couples. It is being said that all the reality shows have some sort of rigging or the other but since Manav and Shweta (Famous for her vamp acts in many K Serials) got caught the whole world is asking for their ouster from the show. Star One reiterated in a press release that the rules and regulations set for ?Nach Baliye 2? have not been violated in any way whatsoever by any of its participants.

?Nach Baliye 2? is one example, while there are several other highly popular reality based shows like ?Jhalak Dikhlaja? on Sony TV and L?il Champs on Zee TV to name a few. And all these shows encourage SMS voting. And considering the huge numbers, the revenue generated through SMSs is worth a fortune. Add the advertising revenue and the channels are laughing all the way to the bank. It is obvious the channels won?t be doing anything about this scam. These television stars are considered to be role models to the society. But does the Big Money culture give a damn about values any more?

Mumbai, October 27, 2006
A miffed woman receiving obscene SMSes from a zealous husband has opened up a Pandora?s box on the kind of canvassing and self-promotion reality show contestants resort to.
With a fat cheque of Rs 50 lakh awaiting the winner of shows like Sony?s Jhalak Dikhhla Ja or the soon-to launch Big Boss, not to mention the gifts, goodwill and prizes the contestants stand to win, spending Rs 80,000 (on 200 SIM cards) seems like a small investment.
Though the Nach Baliye prize money for this year is yet to be finalised, last year?s winners ? Sachin and Supriya Pilgaokar ? won Rs 50 lakh as prize money. Add to this is the monthly episodic cheques for appearing throughout the series and the sponsor?s gifts. The show has even boosted the careers of several participating couples like Rajeev and Delnaz Paul, Varun Badola and Rajeshwari Sachdev, Manish Goyal and Poonam Narula.
Last year too, participants faced allegations of massive self-voting. However, Star Plus sources inform that for Nach Baliye 2, there is a cap of 20 votes per number ? landline or mobile ? per episode. But the channel does not exercise any control vis?-vis the number of votes cast beyond that.
Sameer Nair, chief executive officer, Star Entertainment India, says, ?We have definitely encouraged all Nach Baliye participants to canvas for votes, and many of them have gone the extra mile to do so ? from printing posters and distributing them, travelling to different parts of the country and canvassing, urging their family, friends and fans to vote for them in large numbers, to getting special ?vote for us? T-shirts created.
?Our systems are robust enough to ensure that all set rules and regulations are followed in toto,? adds Nair.
However Sony?s chief creative director Sandiip Sikcand said they have a different rule. ?To avoid bogus voting, we have a cutoff count of 500 votes per number on a weekly basis per show,? he says.
So how far will participants go to bag the booty? Apparently Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa finalist Shveta Salve recently threw an informal party for friends from the television fraternity, urging them to vote for her. ?I am a very shy person. At most I would ask my friends and family to vote for me,? says Salve. In contrast, Mona Singh has been spotted campaigning for votes in some city malls.
Nach Baliye season one finalist, Manish Goyal, does not see anything wrong in selfpromotion. ?Self-campaigning is okay as long as it doesn?t harm fellow contestants. Any election calls for canvassing, but while in case of political and college elections, you can only cast one vote for yourself, reality shows allow you the chance to cast many votes. A difference of one or two votes can throw you out. So as competition peaks, it?s natural that insecurity increases,? Goyal says.
?All?s fair in love and war,? says Rajeev Paul, one of the top four finalists of Nach Baliye 1, adding, ?The contracts don?t forbid us from campaigning and I did that religiously every week. Coming from an Army background, I have friends all over the country whom I asked to campaign for me. We (with wife Delnaz) also asked everyone in our building of 50 flats to vote for us and did school and mall visits where our fans could vote if they liked our performances.?
SMS scandal exposes reality shows
?I am not ashamed of asking people to vote for me, especially since I am not a great dancer, so audience votes were necessary to keep us going,? Paul says.
Some contestants and shows play the regional sympathy card. Like Debojit Saha from Assam and Qazi Touqueer from Jammu and Kashmir who garnered many votes on account of their regional and emotional connect. ?As a voter, I would definitely be a bit biased towards someone from my community,? says Salve who not only performed a Kohli dance, but also appealed for votes from the community in Jhalak?s penultimate episode.
The motivation is that the longer you stay on a show, the more you earn. And even losing can be profitable. Sources say that the first couple to be voted out of Nach Baliye 2 made nearly Rs 10 lakh.
I am a shy person. At the most, I would ask my friends and family to vote for me ? Shveta Salve The contracts don?t forbid us from campaigning and I did that religiously every week. I am not ashamed of asking people to vote for me ? Rajiv Paul Self-campaigning is okay as long as it doesn?t harm fellow contestants.
Posted: Mon Nov 06, 2006 11:55 am Post subject: Written Update: Episode 5 Oct 23rd Show (Western Dance)
The host for today?s show is Delnaa/ Rajeev. Today?s theme is Western Dance with Bollywood Style.
The first performance of the night is from Tina/Hussain. They danced to the song ?Ena Mina Dika?
Judges Comments:
Malaika: I enjoyed your performace. It was fun-filled and energetic. Sometime your coordination didn?t work out well. Your jive was very good.
Kunal: I also enjoyed your performance and looked like you guys were also enjoying. And Tina, leave the hair if it comes to your face. You don?t need to remove it. And you two reminded me of Kishore Kumar and Madhubala. (Saroj Khan reminded Kunal that Madhubala didn?t dance to this song). 8/10
Saroj: She threw some coins towards Tina/Hussain and said that from now one I wont give Rs. 101 because others people are copying my style. Your choreographer kept up the old style which was tremendous. She also said that she didn?t throw coins, it is moti. 9/10
Total Score: 25/30
2nd performance is from Tanaaz/Bhaktyaar. They danced to the song ?Tumse Mili Toh Yo Nazar?. Bhaktyaar is Delnaaz?s brother also, which makes Tanaaz her sister-in-law.
Delnaaz cried after the performance.
Judges Comments:
Malaika: Tanaaz can surely dance. Bhaktyaar is obviously a better dancer than you but you have shown a big improvement. You guys are energetic and fun, and made me dance. If Bhakytaar needs a dancing partner than I am always ready. 10/10
Kunal: Tanaaz, I will dance with you. I don?t think Tanaaz has improved because she has always been fantastic till this episode. He calls Tanaaz and giver her a kiss. 10/10
Saroj: I will dance with you guys, if your choreographer, Mini makes me dance. Mini is shocked by this and refuses to come. But Bhatyaar pulls her in the stage and everyone including Saroj Khan dance. She rewards Mini with her ?motis? (replacement for Rs 101) and they also receive sithi. 10/10
Total Scores: 30/30
3rd performance is from Gurdeep/Arjun. They dance to the song ?Jeena Ke Hain Char Din?.
Judges Comments:
Saroj: I am happy with your performance. But you guys started the rhythm earlier and second thing, always balance yourself after the lift. These are small little flaws, and you guys were very good. Good Composition. 8/10
Malaika: Your act was tough and you guys looked nervous, but you guys pulled it off well. I am very impressed. 8/10
Kunal: Gurdeep was enjoying herself but Arjun looked nervous. It was good but not up to your potential. 7/10
Total Score: 23/10
4th performance is from Gouri/Yash. They danced to the song ? Sholo ji Sholo ji Teri Aankhon Ke Roshini.?
Judges Comments:
Malaika: You guys were beautiful (with French accent). I loved your salsa. Beautiful, Sensational, Stunning and more adjectives. 10/10
Kunal: Gauri was graceful and your performance was beautiful. He bows to Yash and blows kisses to Gouri. 10/10
Saroj: She blows her sithi. You guys compliment each other. Your choice of song was different and it was beautiful. 10/10
Total Score: 30/30
5th performace is from Gauri/Hiten. They danced to the song ? Yaar Bina Chaayen Kaha Re?.
Judges Comments:
Malaika: Hiten has improved a lot. Looks like you are working hard. I felt Gauri was off in terms of her steps. I was looking more at Hiten. You guys are a good looking couple, but work a little more on your chemistry. 8/10
Kunal: I thought Hiten was not a good dancer but he has now become a good dancer. Gauri sometimes didn?t complete your steps so make sure you finish it. I am happily shocked that you guys have shown a big improvement. 7/10
Saroj: You reminded me of Mithun. Good job. 7/10
Total Score: 22/30
6th performance is from Shweta/Raja. They dance to the song ?Main Disco Tu Disco.? (not sure about the lyrics)
Judges Comments:
Malaika: Shweta was sizzling but unfortunately Raja did not match up to the sex appeal which you had. Raja also forgot his steps too and I am disappointed with your performance today. Shweta was lovely. 8/10
Kunal: I really like Shweta?s performance but I though you did not complete your steps sometime. You guys can do much better as you have already proved in earlier episodes. 8/10
Saroj: Raja looked like Dharmendra and Shweta looked like Helen, which is a vast difference. Work harder. 8/10
Total Score: 24/30
Final performace is from Shweta/Manav.They danced to the song ?Gushtikhiya Hai Bettabiyaa?
Judges Comments:
Kunal: I think the audience doesn?t know that Shweta has hurt herself but in spite of that she gave a brilliant performance.
Malaika: aapne mera hosh uda diya.Your chemistry was fabulous.
Saroj: Brave girl (referring to Shweta for her performance). She also gave them the moti.
Now starts the drama which you guys were seeing in the promo, between Yash and Hiten. Hiten acted like as he had some problem with the judges and Yash was trying to stop him from telling it. After all it turned out that it was Malaika?s birthday. Everyone celebrated Malaika?s birthday by cutting a cake with ?Chaiya Chaiya? playing in the background.
Elimination:
The 2 jodi with the least vote are Gurdeep/Arjun and Shweta/Raja. As all of us now Shweta/Raja were eliminated. They said that they will work hard in the wildcard round.
